CarComplaints.com Notes: There was plenty of hope that Ford would fix their “door ajar” warning light issue for the 2014 model year. This widespread problem has caused the previous 3 model years to stay on top of defect trend lists.

So far, the 2014 Edge doesn't share the poor reputation of prior model years.

The drive door is consistently not locking properly and the door latch sensor is not reading when the door is shut properly. Causing a "door ajar" and "transmission not in park" warning to pop up while driving. Also, my car alarm goes off several times a day and several times all through the night due to the door sensor not working properly. The doors not locking is a huge safety risk. The interior lights stay on making it hard to see while driving at night and drains my car battery. Children can open my doors from the inside while driving and any unwanted person can open my doors from the outside while stopped for traffic reasons. When I looked at the car to purchase 4 years ago, I reported the issue to the dealer and the dealer supposedly sent the car to a Ford dealership to inspect and fix the issue. After the supposed fix, the issue seemed fine for a while. However, the issue came back shortly after purchase and got worse causing other symptoms such as the car alarm going off randomly after locking the car. I honestly feel the dealer just cleaned the sensor and door latch area to make a sale, which from what I've read is only a temporary fix. I have seen investigations and recalls for 2011, 2012, and 2013 Ford Edge models with the same or similar issues. However, there have not been any investigations and recalls for this issue on a 2014 Ford Edge, yet there are many complaints. Please investigate this safety issue so we don't have to worry about possible risk that could occur while driving. Thank you.

Was driving on a sunny day on the highway w/ an outside temperature of 53 degrees. Heard a very load noise and thought I may have blown a tire. Pulled over and checked the tires and noticed there was shattered glass all over the top of my car. Turns out that my panoramic sunroof literally exploded!! no trucks were in front of me nor any viaducts that I went under. $900 in damage!! seen many forums with the same issue as well as consumer report complaints about this. Also a few class action suits. Not sure why this happened and who's responsible, but thank god that I had my retractable sun visor closed at the time otherwise I'm confident that all that glass would have hit me with serious injuries.the noise was deafening when it exploded. Wish someone would fess up to this defect before someone gets seriously injured!!

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 55 mph, a loud popping noise occurred. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the sun roof glass had shattered. The sun roof was closed at the time of the failure. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer (billingsley Ford, 2502 nw quanah parker trailway, lawton, ok) were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000. Updated 11/29/18

Complaint on my 2014 Ford Edge: When ignition on and the front driver's door is closed, the dashboard light indicates door ajar & bell keeps ringing but door is not ajar! it is closed properly! while car is parked the parking lights blink on and off by themselves also. Weikert Ford in lake wales fl has replaced the door latch to correct the problem. My cost is $371.88. I believe the Ford automobile company should do a recall and reimburse me my cost. I've done research about other 2014 Ford Edge's with this same problem. Will email Ford and see if they will reimburse me my cost! my car mileage 49,996.3. hope Ford will reimburse my cost! I have my itemize cost receipt by doesn't up to this form.

The door ajar indicator will not turn off. It is frustrating because my children ride in the cr and I am constantly checking to ensure it is actually closed. My auto door locks do not automatically engage. The lights stay on much longer than necessary.
