CarComplaints.com Notes: There was plenty of hope that Ford would fix their “door ajar” warning light issue for the 2014 model year. This widespread problem has caused the previous 3 model years to stay on top of defect trend lists.

So far, the 2014 Edge doesn't share the poor reputation of prior model years.

The known issue of the door sensor not working when the door is closed is affecting my vehicle. This problem is a huge issue when the dome light won’t go off at night, and the doors will not lock when I am transporting children.

The interior lights stay on, the door ajar indicator is on, plus warning chimes.

I open and close door several times, slam door, but the doors won't lock and the key fob doesn't work - kids can open doors while moving.

This is a serious safety issue.

Update from Sep 1, 2021: Carriage Ford in Clarksville, IN thinks it's a faulty door latch. Although several complaints of similar problem, no recalls as yet. Service dept. was too busy to get me in so issue still exists.

Door ajar light stays on, even when door is closed multiple times and is latched. Not only is the constant light and door ajar reminder annoying, this poses a major safety issue as it can prevent the car from locking while in motion OR parked, which can result in major accidents or theft. Not locking while parked also leaves the lights on, resulting in a dead battery.

I’ve seen many more complaints about this and I had a very similar issue with my 2014 Ford Fiesta. Which had a recall! Where is the recall on this?!?!

I have read hundreds of complaints concerning this problem with the Ford Edge! The fix at the dealer costs several hundred dollars. I have tried the cleaning sensor fixes on the web. I really don't want to cut wires, pull the door panel off and clean the sensor as mentioned. FORD needs to fix this problem and its obvious that they don't care about repeat business. I love my Edge but I will be trading this vehicle off soon. I will NOT be buying another ford unfortunately as this has been a problem for the Edge for many years. This fact points the Ford motor company does not care to fix this nagging problem with hundreds of customers. SO goodbye Ford Motor company.

The driver's door ajar light stays on while driving and when stopped at a light the warning bell dings and the slight changes to the transmission is not in park. This occurred a few times last fall and I took the vehicle to the dealer. The Associate told me that if the problem was not happening at the time I have the car in, he has no way of knowing what the problem was and he's have to run a diagnostic. I know realize that he knew what was wrong but didn't offer a solution because I wouldn't run the diagnostic. I had an oil change and left and didn't have a problem again until yesterday, April 14, 2014. After searching the web I've since found out that this is a common problem with Ford autos. From December thru March I was having problems with my battery not having enough charge to start the car, I had AAA come out to the house to jump it. The last time I drove the car straight to the dealership explaining what had occurred. I ended up buying a new battery from them for $250. Now this is starting up all over again,. Shame on Ford an shame on Gordie Boucher dealership in Kenosha, WI.

My Ford Edge has an issue with the door latch, which gives the Door Ajar warning for the driver door even though the door has been closed properly. I got an appointment with local Ford Service Centre in Saudi Arabia. As per the service advisor, it would cost me $80 for diagnosis and @$ 250 for the fix. And, the car would be delivered on the next day. I didn't get thru as I am not in position to leave the car overnight.

Looking for some support if there is any quick fix for this. Also i wonder why doesn't Ford recall to fix the issues considering huge number of same issues being reported with Edge.

Wouldn't recommend anyone to buy Ford!!!!

Took a chance on a FORD after buying foreign cars for years. My foray into the great American car comeback. Right! Sh*t happens, I understand that, but what really chaps my ass is that FORD has not fixed this flawed door ajar design after knowing about it for years. Just proof that they don't give a rats ass...just like in the 80's. Meanwhile my Toyota which is 4 years older and has twice the mileage sits there smirking as if to say ... 'you fool, you let the hype overrule your good sense. !!!!'

The door ajar light is a joke and it should be recalled. I've done nothing to cause this problem and the dealer wants 600 to fix. No way. Cheap part, Ford should fix this issue. Too many other people are having same issues !!

Same issue that others having with the Driver Door Ajar sensor failing and lights staying on. Just happened after 4.25 years and 45000 miles. I keep the car clean so I don't think it's a dirty sensor.

My only work around is when I park, I get in on the passengers side and turn the key before turning over the engine and see if the sensor is active. If it is, I keep opening/shutting the drivers door until it goes off and then get out/lock.

At least this way, my battery won't die and leave me stranded.

I'm sure I'll take this in if I can't find a fix myself.

Update from Jun 13, 2017: Shutting the door constantly doesn't even work now. Tried the WD-40 but no dice. So frustrating.

Edge Limited 3.5L

This was so annoying .

Service manager told me that Ford was allowing them to replace the driver door latch, however now they could only "clean them". Edge had 41,000 miles. This worked until today October 21,2014, Edge now has 46,000 miles.

Took back and was told the latch needed replaced and the cost was $295.00 because it is not under warranty. I called Ford service to complain since I know for a fact this has been an ongoing problem. Of course, they tell me they cannot help as there is no recall!!

This is a real crock. The latch should be replaced at no cost.

FORD YOU NEED TO RECALL...THIS IS YOUR ISSUE....STEP UP!!!

Could be a safety issue as the door ajar light requires you to open and reshut door to try to correct it. I have had to pull over as it happens while driving...all at once BING>>BING>>>BING...
