CarComplaints.com Notes: There was plenty of hope that Ford would fix their “door ajar†warning light issue for the 2014 model year. This widespread problem has caused the previous 3 model years to stay on top of defect trend lists.
So far, the 2014 Edge doesn't share the poor reputation of prior model years.

While driving the wrench light will come on, vehicle will lose all power and vehicle becomes difficult to steer and brake. Once the vehicle stops vehicle needs to shut down, wait several minutes and then restarted. Once vehicle is on again the light goes out
Window Master Switch and door wire harness on drivers door does not operate. Can not open any windows on the vehicle. Rear windows will not open from rear door switches also. In case of accident windows can not be opened for exit purposes. Can not open windows if stopped by a police officer, whereas, they may feel threatened by occupant in vehicle. Is this a safety feature to be able to open windows. Ford dealer performed a vehicle check on May 20, 2021 and indicated the door harness may need replacement and the window master switch. Ford indicated the vehicle is 7 years old and the part is likely not made by Ford anymore. Ford has no way to correct the issue. There were no warning lights, messages, regarding the stoppage on May 20, 2021
The vehicle instrument cluster displays a "driver door ajar" warning...despite the door being fully closed. The dome lights stay on, and an "engine on" alert appears, as well. To clear it, the driver's door must be closed several times. It is occurring more and more often. The vehicle is stationary during this problem. It seems this is a rampant problem from what my research indicates...and should seemingly dictate a factory recall.
Put the car in park mode, turned off key, removed key, was exiting the vehicle and it started indicating the car was not in park. This has happened twice and both times the vehicle started moving as it was in neutral even though the key was removed and it showed in park
1.press or loosing off brakes pedal gives a knocking noise. 2. rear view camera flickers & shut off with a warning message. 3. rearview side mirrors do not work. 4. lighter plug located by middle compact towards back row does not work.

Driver door ajar warning won't go out. Doors won't lock. Battery drains. Transmission not in park warning. These warnings come on while parked and while the vehicle is moving.
I have a faulty door latch issue. When I turn my car on and start driving, the driver door ajar light won't go off and I can open my doors while driving. When I shut the car off, the lights won't go off inside the car and the car continues to ding like the door is open. This will cause my battery to go dead.
When I close my driver door, it tells me that my door is ajar. I know my door is closed so I put my car in drive and it tells me that my transmission is not in park. I know that there was an issue with the 2013 Ford Edge door latch on the driver door. I do not believe that Ford has corrected the problem. I have to close my door 3 to 4 times every time I get in my car just to make the indicator stop dinging.
The driver side door sensor/ latch is failing. Door is closed or slammed multiple times and sensor shows errors of: Door ajar, transmission not in park, engine on because it doesn't sense the door being shut. Therefore the overhead light stays on and can potentially drain battery. If continuing to drive with warning it will beep every few seconds. The doors will not automatically lock. When getting out of car and locking. It needs to be shut multiple times so light doesn't stay on and or alarm will not set.
Driver side door latch/sensor malfunction. Due to manufacture date of October 2014 my vehicle is not eligible under current recall for the latch (19N09) however my vehicle is currently at the dealership having the part replaced with out of pocket expense.
The driver said door won't register as closed so the door ajar light stays on. This then won't allow the doors to lock and keeps the dome light on. How do you know if the door is really shut or not ? it makes the car almost useless since it thinks the door is not shut and how do you know if it is or not.
Door ajar / transmission not in park sensor is not working properly. Unsafe condition not knowing if door lock system is working properly. Have to stop numerous time while driving to check if door is actually closed and locked. Also will not allow interior lights to go off, and is safety issue when trying to drive at night. Extremely difficult to see due to lost of night vision. Ford motor knows of the issues for years but refuses to correct issue via a recall. The vehicle only has 31,000 miles on it.
The rear backup camera failed after 5 years. It would not present a proper image on the screen in the dashboard, rather it showed an image that was upside down or it was just blank. Dealer said it was form normal wear and tear (?) and it was over $1K to repair. Since it is relied upon when backing up the vehicle, it presented a significant safety issue to not have it operate properly.
Driving my vehicle in traffic and it displayed a wrench symbol and start shaking lost power, had to drift to the side of the road in traffic. I had it towed to the dealer same day after 3 hours of being on side of the road they said it was the oil cap had came off, but you could not go but 20 mph. Would like to know whys hasn't anyone issued an recall on this year model. To cover the cost of this issue, could have lost my life. Please consider issuing a full recall.
Driver "door ajar" light remains on. Doors will not lock while car is in drive. Warning lights such as "engine on" and "transmission not in park" are also posted. Warning lights reappear when vehicle comes to a stop. Silence warnings by pushing the ok button on the left of the steering wheel. Dome lights remain on when car is parked. Problem seems to be intermittent. Seems to be related to the locking mechanism or switch on the door.
While my wife was driving home from work, our 2014 Ford Edge completely shut down. She had no control of anything. Luckily she was able to coast onto the side of the road without being hit from the rear. In the dash, the "wrench" icon displayed with a message alerting her to see manual. It has been 3yrs to the date since we've purchased the car and nothing like this has ever happened. This seems to be an issue that was happening to other Ford Edge's in 2013. As Ford is about safety, I'm personally outraged that this issue is still happening with no resolve. What if she had gotten hurt; what if she had hurt someone else due to this issue.
We are experiencing high levels of exhaust gases inside the passenger cabin of a 2014 Ford Edge. The exhaust fumes are noticeable when idling for extended periods and are most pronounced when accelerating at highway speed. Exhaust gases can reach high levels so uncomfortable that windows must be rolled down to flush the passenger cabin. This condition has been reported to a Ford service department which indicated that a method of repair exists but no manufacturer recall has been issued to date. The condition is similar to that in the Ford Explorer that resulted in repairs to law enforcement vehicles.
"door ajar" alert stays on even though the door is fully shut. The alarm will keep going off while driving. It therefore leaves the interior dome lights on which can lead to the battery draining over night. Unable to lock the doors when the vehicle is in motion. Safety issue if you have kids or for a woman driving alone. The key fob won't be able to lock the doors when you leave the car parked.
On Saturday Oct. 6 at approx. 9 P.M. with mild weather/temp. At 70 mph on left lane of highway in a construction zone with no emergency shoulder, wrench symbol appeared and it would not keep up to speed. Because of the sudden slow down, we were almost hit several times trying to get to the right. The speed dropped suddenly. Limped it along to what we "thought was a safe exit" and called state police. While waiting I kept the car on with hazard lights. Then two vehicles appeared tried to block us in and we believe rob us. I was able to hit the gas and get 1/4 mile before it did it again. Would not move, chugged and cut off. The suspicious people took off but it was terrifying to be so vulnerable and not be able to get away. It was towed by state police to closest dealer of the auto group we purchased from as a certified pre-owned vehicle. After reading online that this has happened to many, many people and how dangerous it is, I wanted to report it. This issue is going to kill people. It is the throttle body. The forums are loaded with people that faced this sudden dangerous situation.
