Has only 82000 miles, engine is making clanking noises and cuts off and every stop. When you step on the gas it till not accelerate much past 40 or 50mph. and the dealer is saying about $5000 but they are not sure that will fix it.

Escape XLT 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 103,769 miles

All regular maintenance had been done for years, the Escape ran great for years. Then all in one day, one brake line ruptured, and the engine simply stalled...never to be run again. Mechanic says "bottom fell out of engine" and it was the 2nd 2006 Escape he saw the same week with the same problem!

This web site reports engine failure as the most common problem with 2006 Escapes..around 85000miles. Who knew? Ford certainly never reached out to owners.

Escape

  • Automatic transmission
  • 83,000 miles

I bought my 2006 Ford Escape in 2009 with 26,000 miles. Approximately 3 months after a routine oil change, at 83,000 miles, with no warning, the engine blew. The oil was completely empty. I still owe a balance on this vehicle and It will cost $5k - $6k to replace the engine. Ford was no help.

Took my 2006 Ford Escape XLT to the auto repair shop because smoke was coming from my engine. He told me that after checking under the hood I needed an oil change because the oil filer had a hole in it and the oil was leaking all over my engine. I said okay and he did the job. He said come back if anything goes wrong. Well it did. The very next day, my engine completely died. Sounded like everything inside was falling out. Took it to a different auto repair shop and they want $5000.00 to install a re-built Jasper engine in my car. I called Ford Customer Service to complain that my oil light icon never came up showing that I needed oil and they completely blew me off stating that oh well your car is too old. So now I have no car. Have no idea how or when it will be fixed. Extremely disappointed in Ford for not standing behind their cars. My car is not even 5 years old and I already need a brand new engine. I am so upset words cannot express how upset I am. Waiting to see if its covered under my insurance policy. Hope this helps other people. Will not be buying a Ford anytime soon.....

Ford is making a huge profit off of selling this car to people knowing there are so many that are defective. Then after replacing the engine with a defective engine, they could essentially turn another profit again or resell the car to an unsuspecting buyer. The woman I spoke with would not acknowledge the problem. She said that anyone can say whatever they want on the internet. Well, here I am. I have taught ethics. I can tell you that it is unethical to ignore a problem with this important a purchase. Families that purchase this car with limited finances could suffer tremendously. I will never buy a Ford again. I am sad to see that once again, a company once started to help middle Americans, now is willing to steal from them by omission of important facts and not standing behind their product. I pray that Ford will change. This is a sin.
