Ford stands for fu;:/ horrible, the dealership is worthless and has no knowledge or respect for its customers. Not only did I have to return my car five times to fix the transmission problem, I added an oil change only to be sent home a quart short. Transmission clutch was out of sinc and I'm beyond frustrated, they reset my computer and sent me out in a death trap. Totally disappointed , clutch, clutch, clutch, what are they doing!!!! No more Fords, I'm done!!!!

Escape XLT 4 cyl

Transmission started jerking in April 2014. Had transmission fluid and filter changed. Then in August it started again, in early September had a leaking seal replaced. Started jerking again in November. Had seal replaced again. Now it's December and the transmission is jerking and slipping. I love Fords, but not this one. I will get rid of it if Ford isn't willing to deal with issue.

Update from Apr 9, 2015: Major safety concerns when I am merging onto a busy highway and the transmission slips or jerks and I can't

accelerate or merge properly with the traffic. Other times when I start to pull out of a drive way, it basically just stalls and will finally jerk and my vehicle will start moving. There is never any way of knowing when this is going to happen. I am almost 62 years old and do a lot of traveling. I have always been a Ford fan, but if I could get rid of this car, I would!

Started having a few "weird" grumbling sounds this summer. Was gone the last few months taking care of my mom, though. Came back and started driving my vehicle again and press on the gas and the rpms go up but the vehicle does not go any faster. Very scary. Upon further searching on the internet, it seems to be a common problem. My vehicle is in the shop right now and I am worried that it will not be fixed. Also found out that Ford is not going to make the Escape for 2012 or 2013. Hmmmmm. Kinda' have to wonder why???? It is a bad transmission and they know it, but do not seem to want to resolve the issue. This is my vehicle that I use to cart my child around in and I do not feel safe in it. Wish we would have bought another the Honda instead. :(

My Escape was wonderful for the 1st year I owned it then wow, just over a year and all hell has broke loose with the transmission! Definitely a safety issue Ford needs to deal with soon. First incident happened while driving to work. I got to a passing zone and started passing. The RPM's flew up, i let my foot off the gas and clunk it grabbed and I made it past. That evening it was very scary! I had my son and my nephew in with me. I was pulling out onto the highway and IT DID IT AGAIN! This time it put us in danger, with traffic coming from both directions. I managed to get it to grab by, again, letting my foot off the gas, and i got to the edge of the road. I took the vehicle back to the dealer the next day. They had it for approximately a week until I got it back, in worse shape than I gave it to them in!

Escape XLT 2.5L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,900 miles

I've had problems with the transmission shifting after start up first thing in the morning. This happened after driving a few blocks. The transmission slipped and over revved going from 2nd gear into 3rd, and 3rd into 4th; one right after another. I read about the re-programming service bulletin, and took my Escape to the dealer. about two weeks after it was reprogrammed; the same thing happened again. I took it back to Ford, and they state they can't find anything wrong with it; no codes came up.This morning the over revving/down shifting happen again. At times when I put it into drive after backing up, it seems like it takes a couple or three seconds to realize which gear it is in. I also experience hard shifting at times. The dealer told me 3rd gear will always be a hard shift. I guess they're not going to do anything until transmission damage happens.....

Google 6F35 transmission problems and see what comes up. it seems 6f35's installed before Jan 2010 have problems. There were supposedly notices sent out to owners of 2010 Escapes; but I never got one. If you suspect your Escape could be one, go to the dealer and have them run the VIN. If you have under 7000 miles they will reprogram the transmission. If you have over 7000 miles, the will reprogram the transmission and perform a load test on it.

Update from Feb 7, 2011: Here's an update:

In December 2010, I brought my vehicle in for another unrelated issue. (I went to a different dealership this time). I told them I still had problems with the transmission shifting at times; and I told them I was aware of the service bulletin, and that I had the transmission reprogramed twice. One of the service writers kind of questioned my knowledge and experience of the situation. He kept it over night and when I Called the dealership the next day, he told me they were going to pull the transmission to replace the valve body and install the transmission repair kit which includes:forward clutches, O/D Clutches, seals, gaskets and fluid. I've noticed that the gears wind much longer before up shifting and the over-rev has happened only once (it was the third day I had it back, and was a cold morning.) the over-reving has not happened once since then. Also, after the new clutch pack was installed, my gas mileage has dropped about 3-4 miles per gallon. I thought it would get better after "wearing in", but it has not.

Needless to say, I'm not totally sure it's fixed.....
