This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.

The 4-wheel drive lites (4-wheel dr-low & 4-wheel dr) and the cruise control lite began flashing on the dash. I stopped at a Ford dealership, pocatello, Idaho. They put on computer, but said they could find nothing in the GEM memory, so advised me to drive on to salt lake city, but do not put in cruise control, and this would not harm the car's equipment or be unsafe. I returned from my trip and stopped at a retirement home's parking lot in Idaho falls on July 1, 2000 and the car made "banging" noises when reversed out of the parking slot. The dash lites that had been flashing previously were not showing. I called the broadway Ford dealership that services the car to haul it in for repair. They found the sensors were not working properly. Then they test drove the car and said it had a noise in the transfer case and thought they should investigate. They found shavings in the fluid, and have parts on order. I am alarmed at what might have happened while driving on the interstate to and from salt lake city at 75 mph, as the car lurched and banged in reverse and forward gear when I tried to drive out of the parking lot at the retirement home. It seemed to have the gears locked up, or the two 4-wheel drive transmissions not working together. They cannot assure me that the transmission might also be damaged from these sensors not working.
This has happened three times. Once in December 1997. Once in June 1998. And once on June 19, 2000. Each time as I am coming to a normal stop at an intersection, the car accelerates. The last two times I was sitting at the intersection with both feet on the brake with the wheels spinning, burning rubber, until I managed to shift into park. The dealer has offered to "trade me out" but I am afraid they will just resell the car. Plus I feel that they have not accepted that the car has endangered my life. After the first two incidents, Santa Fe Ford tested the car and replaced some parts (in June 1998) I have a copy of that repair sheet. So the incident this week occured after two years of no problems. I was at a busy, small-town intersection.
Accelerator bracket that holds onto firewall came off while driving due to failure of the 2 spot welds which were the size of an eraser tip on firewall. Dealer repaired bracket by re-spot welding the bracket.
EA99001, throttle body system malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to jump forward or backward. Also, while starting vehicle, it will stall out when placing it in gear. Owner thinks part should be recalled.
While traveling with cruise control on, consumer could not turn off cruise control. Gas pedal went involuntarily to the floor, and car accelerated from 68 mph to 85 mph. Vehicle had to be shut down in order to disengage the cruise control.
Stopped at a stop sign, went to accelerate and the gas pedal was sticking. Then, vehicle lurched forward when the pedal stopped sticking. Contacted dealer, and was told that the throttle body valve was sticking which caused the problem.
Throttle body prevents the driver from depressing the accelerator. A service recall has been issued. Dealer has repaired the vehicle under the service recall; however it has also been repaired 2 times since the recall, and 3 times prior to the recall. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified.
Vehicle experienced two car crashes due to possible failure of the speed control (recall component) prior to notice, also speed control repaired four times prior to accidents. Mjs (99V-062)
Vehicle had continual problems with the cruise control, not able to be rectified, 2 accidents occurred due to faulty cruise control which did not signal one wheel to activate properly and locked up instead causing complete loss of control. Mjs
