On Saturday night July 8, 2000 my 18 year old daughter was returning home from a friends house on interstate 65. She had traveled approximately 5 miles when the left rear tire blew out. She was lucky she was able to control the vehicle to the side of the interstate. Upon my arrival it looked as if the tire had blew out on the inside and the outside. The tire was barely still on the rim. I took the tire to a local Firestone dealer on July 10, 2000 for replacement. The dealer could not pin point a reason for the failure and replaced the tire at a pro-rated price of $40.66. I noticed the replacement tire was manufactured in Canada and the original tires (including the failure) were manufactured in the usa. Now that there is a recall on Firestone Wilderness AT tires, I wanted to make sure I recorded my experience and complaint.( dot number: W2co1px258 tire size: 9255/70R16 )

On September 17,1999 at approximately 45 miles per hour, I swerved to avoid hitting an on coming vehicle. Upon applying the brakes, the front and rear driverside tires blewout causing my vehicle to "rollover" several times. At "no time" did the airbags deploy. Upon arrival of the police, I was transported to a local hospital with "severe" head injuries. My truck was completely totaled. I have in my possesion pictures of the incident, including the tires and "no" airbags.( dot number: )

All 4 tires developed cracks in every other cleat where the tread joins the tire casing and along the beads. There was no tread separation but I felt it was imminent. Portsmouth Ford did not want to inspect the tires untill I insisted. They then told me I would have to wait for the next available appointment which was 2 weeks away.I finally called the national Ford customer service number.they would not even talk to me about the defective tires untill I verbally forced a customer service agent to take a formal complaint. The people at the Firestone national 800 number would not give me any information about warrrantee replacement. I had to locate a Firestone tire service center in manchester, nh. Firestone offered to replace the tires allowing 50% tread wear. The problem is they could not provide replacement tires for 5-6 months. To sum this up, I purchased 4 tires of another brand today. I have the lot number of the defective tires: Vncu1tx048 (all 4 the same lot) I took digital pictures of the defects and have my receipts.( dot number: Not known tire size: 255/70R16 )

I think someone should be looking at the other 15" Wilderness AT tires that are not in the recall. We have a set on a 1998 Explorer that has been excellently maintained. The tires have never been inflated less than the manufacturer's recommended 26 psi. In fact I have kept them inflated at 28 psi. The tires have 30,000 miles on them and exhibit only one crack but that crack is completely around the circumference of each tire and in approximately 1/2" from the perimeter on all four tires. I have not looked at the spare but I suspect it is ok since it has never been on the vehicle. Our tires were made in Canada and exhibit dot code vnhl1py477X5 and thus they are not in the recall according to Ford and Firestone. This should not happen to a tire at 30,000 miles. I had gone to both a Firestone store and the Ford dealership where we purchased the vehicle. The Ford dealership said to contact Firestone. When I went to the Firestone store they did indeed inspect the tires and said they did not qualify for the recall. Just thought you might like to know.( dot number: Vnhl1py477 tire size: P235-75R15 )

This tire "separated" while traveling on I 37 from corpus christi, tx to san antonio, tx. There was a strong vibration and an extreme pull to the right while traveling at highway speed. Upon arrival in san antonio, we sought out a Firestone dealership and stopped at Firestone tire & service center at 4906 walzam rd. I apprised the technician of the symptoms and he already knew what I was describing. He advised that the tire had separated but that they would need to check it for sure. On this tire, it had "separated" but had not come apart like the one we later experienced that I have already notified you. It occured on 7/24/2000 and caused an estimated $2,800 damage to the left rear quarter panel of my vehicle. The purpose of this notification is to advise you of a tire that was not part of the recall "vd......" tires also failed and that there may be a design flaw in the tires themselves. The serial number on this tire was 8xhl1py0300. Another troubling issue is the familarity of the technician with the problem even before he had to check it. How many other similar tires had he seen with this same problem" had Firestone known of these problems prior to the us recall"( dot number: Tire size: 23575R15 )

Firestone and Ford are not doing enough on this recall. This recall did not catch them by surprise as they have recalled tires in foreign nations without informing the american public. My Explorer sits parked in the garage and clearly shows signs of tire seperation that is about to come. As of Friday the 25th of August Ford has told me another 45 days for tires, customer service is so poor at Firestone I refuse to even deal with them. Firestones top executives do not wish to talk to any consumers as I have tried to contact them on several occasions only to be transfered to lines that are non existant in the end. I do not beleive in filing lawsuits against corporations as I feel it hurts America more than it helps. However, because of the ignorance of Ford and Firestone, I feel these companies should pay to the point of bankrupcy. I am interested in joining a class action suit and wonder where do I go. Thank you, jeff mayer( dot number: Vdhl tire size: 235/75R15 )
