CarComplaints.com Notes: The NHTSA's complaint data shows potentially scary power steering problems with the 2011 Ford Explorer.

The steering complaints are pretty serious - owners report the power steering cuts out while driving. The NHTSA opened an investigation into the power steering problems in June 2012, which lead to a recall in 2014. However years later, many 2011 Explorer owners report this defect is still occurring.

It's too bad because the 2009 & 2010 Ford Explorer are solid, trouble-free model years.

I could tell there was something wrong. I could hear more wind coming in. I like to sit in car in quiet, which is how I could tell.

I was driving 70+ on expressway when this happened. It freaked me out - I didn't know what happened. I thought it was my tire or something. Had to pullover to see what happened. And that is dangerous altogether also.

We are also motorcycle riders and we just thought f***ing scary and dangerous. Can you imagine something like that coming and flying towards your face? OMG

molding around windshield coming apart

Car was garage kept first 4 year, has never been wrecked. Windshield molding just started blowing off. Originally only noticed noise. After entire top piece was gone leaked rain around rear window console. Side molding began coming off and slapping passenger window, finally broke off.

The right side edge and the left side edge had a molded rubber the hold down the windshield and on the top had like a plastic rail holding it down, this is only a 2011 explorer and I have been buying explorer since 1996, but I believe it's going to by my last one. It's a very expensive unit and only 5 years old to be having such many problems.
