This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.

Strong burning smell and exhaust like smell entering the cabin of the vehicle. The smell comes in through the air vents and in through the windows when they are rolled down. The vehicle smells like it is burning at times while other times it produces a strong sulfur smell. This issue is sporadic and seems to occur mostly when the vehicle is ran at highway speeds or when accelerating rapidly.
The car lurches for the first 40-50 feet at slow speeds while applying minimal pressure on the gas pedal. It happens the initial time putting it in drive after each engine start, regardless of putting it in reverse first or not. It used to only happen after every few starts, but has progressed to every single time now and some can be very aggressive. The dealership has attempted to fix the issue 5 times now, with the 5th time resulting in them saying it is a "normal characteristic" of the vehicle, without being able to explain what is causing it. I was told by the local service manager that he "doesn't know why it is doing it, but it's normal." He then proceeded to compare the characteristic to someone poorly releasing the clutch on a manual vehicle and again, still claiming that everything is perfectly normal.
Since a week ago I am feeling a strong smell in the vehicle once I turn it on and when I turn on the air condition it increases alot. I have gotten strong headaches because of this odor and my preocupation is that I am with my children most of the time. I called for a check up and they gave me an appointment. My preocupation is that it will happen again.
Smell strong odor of exhaust emission, start of car and while driving 1 hour commute dizziness and headaches. I had it taken to dealer for reseal. Still same issue. Ford should take these cars back.
There is an exhaust smell in the cabin of the vehicle. It has been making me sick, nausea, headaches, and burning eyes. The exhaust is coming in through the heating and air system and is more noticeable when accelerating and when the air conditioner is on. The smell is not as noticeable when the heat is on. The smell is the same with the air conditioner regardless of whether the recirculate feature is enabled. Turning off the heat / air conditioner seems to eliminate the problem. It is definitely coming into the cabin from the heat and A/C. I just learned this is a common issue with these vehicles and discovered all the talk on the internet and that Ford was offering a "customer satisfaction" inspection that ended on 12/31/18 which is not acceptable since my vehicle has only recently developed this problem and we have received no notification from Ford of this potential problem and the inspection / repair.

The lines to the rear cabin heating and cooling started leaking R134, so the whole car is losing air conditioning since it all ties together. The car is less than two years old, and is having problems like this, which should be quite embarrassing to an experienced auto maker like Ford. This is supposedly because the car was in Colorado where roads are salted in the winter, but the lines should be aluminum, so they shouldn't corrode from salt.
Carbon monoxide presence in vehicle. Repeatedly took it to the shop still no fix, have a new transmission put in problem persists change the timing cover problem still persists. Experience this issue at first startup, while driving local street and freeways, problem is getting worse my kids are getting sick and constant headache
Took Explorer to the dealership. For the rotten eggs smell for the second time as well as another issue. They did not address the exhaust smell and when question a second time they stated it was driven and the could not smell it. I was told to drive the Explorer until it got worse and then bring it back in. This is unacceptable. Ford is knowingly allowing dealerships to place defective Explorer back on the street. People are getting hurt with this exhaust problem. Something needs to be done since I need to drive it until it gets worse, or pass-out and wreck the Explorer
Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company, hankook tire America Corp. Vehicle identification no. Have 28,000 miles and have been rotated at each oil change; have been experiencing low air pressure readings, extreme treadwear and 1ea tire failure (separation (while in motion))....this is another dangerous issue similar to the Firestone disaster. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
2017 Ford Explorer Sport AWD had the courtesy service for the exhaust bulletin done. I don't know what they fixed because the car still smells of exhaust when I accelerate hard. Trying to merge onto the highway on ramps comes to mind. Or if accelerate hard from a stop light in the city. Pretty much have to lower the windows. Dealers are useless they just claim the vehicles are safe. Have had this issue since purchased new.
Carbon monoxide leak into vehicle. Car has foul odor that permeates through the car when driving. Especially when accelerating to highway speeds. Seems to be only when the A/C is in recirculation mode
Bought my 2017 Ford Explorer brand new and it had been fine until 3 months ago when we started to smell smoke inside of the cabin. It happens every time we turn on the car for the first time with the ac or regular air turned on blowing through the vents. In two minutes or so the smell is gone. Took it to the dealer, replaced the cabin filter but smell remains. Took it again and they said there was nothing they could do. They also said it wasn't CO2 or ac gas because both of those I supposedly wouldn't be able to smell as they have no odor. As far as I know, CO2 smells like smoke though!! in the beginning of the year I received a recall letter to bring my car in for service because of CO2 complaints in the cabin, but apparently that was actually when my car didn't have any smell... anyways, after seeing so many complaints online I decided to register mine here as well. Not sure what to do or what steps to take...
Taken back to dealer for rotten egg smell this will be the second time after all they did was inspect per the tech bulletin and reprogrammed ac unit, (still have smell while under medium acceleration ) also whistling coming from intake side of motor.
Exhaust leaking into cab of police package Explorer vehicle. Spring of 2018, seals of my Explorer were replaced. Sept 2018, I felt sick, pulled over and passed out while driving Explorer. Next week, different Ford dealer located additional missed seals and replaced ones previously replaced.
