The rough idle is so bad that I've never seen another car have as rough idle as this one. Not sure what to fix though.

Focus ZXW 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 24,000 miles

Over a period of time I started to notice that my Focus was starting to Idle rough not even a year after purchase. I took it back to the dealership cause the car was still under warranty and they told me and my wife that it is normal for a Focus to idle the way it did and that no action could be done to correct it. Months went by and the problem became more pronounced. It was to the point that once the car warmed up totally you could open all four doors and watch them vibrate like the car was going to stall but it didn't stall. Once you hit the gas though it ran fine. The RPM's were where they needed to be so I was a little puzzled. Again I took it back to the dealer but by this time the warranty was up( I do alot of driving) and the Tech that checked the car out said that he'd recommend changing two of the three mounts. The two mounts were for the engine, the 3rd was transmission. But his service writer said that he wasn't sure that that would fix the problem. The mounts with the labor only came up to $250 but why dump $250 on something that may not work. Still drive it like that til this day and am quite ashamed to have people get in my car and ask me "whats wrong with your car". I've been in cars that are way older and have double the mileage and don't run half as bad as my Focus.
