This is the first time I had to replace the clutch. I used to enjoy driving this vehicle, until I heard about the class action lawsuit that consumers launched against Ford Motor Company after they bought Ford Fiesta and Focus vehicles. Ford Fiesta and Focus vehicles are equipped with a "dual dry clutch" (it has 2 dry clutches that take the power from the transmission and deliver it to the engine to make the vehicle move; these clutches don't have any lubrication going into the clutch system to help protect the clutch plates from premature wear-out and failure). I had the clutch replaced and I needed to spend 6 hours at the dealership to have the job completed. The vehicle is still under warranty, so the only positive in this story is that I don't have to pay $600 to have the clutch replaced. I'm beginning to wonder if I want to stay with Ford. Given Ford's reputation for building disappointing vehicles, I don't think I want to.

Under no circumstance do I ever recommend that anyone buy a Ford Focus, unless they have lots of free time to spend 6 hours of any given day at the dealership having the clutch replaced (and at $600/pop for each clutch replacement if the vehicle's warranty has expired, I hope the person that buys this kind of car has tons of money in their bank account). This is the SECOND TIME I had to replace the clutch for the same problem (shuddering on acceleration, hesitancy, shuddering while REVERSING INTO A PARKING SPACE, NO MORE THAN 2 HOURS AFTER HAVING THE CLUTCH REPLACED A SECOND TIME, not going any faster than 10 km/h). I'm looking at a possible 3rd clutch replacement, and have an appointment 11/5/2020 to bring the car back to the dealership to diagnose the problem. This complaint has me persuaded AWAY from ever purchasing another Ford product. Ford Motor Company needs to change their name to FORF (Fix Or Replace Frequently). Because that's all I've ever had to do with this vehicle, replace the stupid clutch (not even a year after having it replaced the first time, and not even 3 years after buying the car!) Ford engineers needed to think it through more before they decided to put a DUAL DRY CLUTCH (more appropriate for dirt bikes and other kinds of motorcycles) on a vehicle that needs to travel longer distances in all kinds of weather. And Ford Motor Company sales people are in for a rude awakening if they think I'm investing any more time or money in another Ford product (that's a firm NO).

Focus Focus

My 2017 Focus started making noise a couple months after I bought it in Oct. 2017. Didn't know what it was...drove with the noise for awhile. It got worse, took car in. I was told by the Ford Customer Service Rep "oh, that problem was supposed to have been fixed by Ford already". It was a known defect. They kept my car about 3 weeks. Picked it up, and was not told what the issue really was.

Just found out today that it was a clutch replacement last year. I only found out because the problem is now occurring again, plus a shuddering as well. I called Ford today(8/2/19) to schedule a time to come in and get a loaner so they can fix the clutch again. Have to wait two weeks before a loaner will be available.

I'm not happy that the same problem us occurring again, after being fixed once, and it is a known issue with the car!

I really just want to sell it and get a new vehicle, but I cannot do so right now.

I've also read that there is a class action lawsuit regarding this year and other years, because Ford knew about the problem. I'm going to be checking into that issue as well.

with 1800 miles on a new car, you'd think the dealership would pay for it. this is not the first ford focus with this, I researched this issue and it's an on going issue with these ford focus'. there's a complaint board with this major issue.
