will not accelerate as usually expected from D4 start. need to go through beginning gears manually and once rolling the D4 gear works fine.

Once during the winter, the "D" on the transmission display flashed, but this never repeated. When it happened again this past week, there was a loss of power (a Honda site - talking about someone elses' similar problem - said the car was running in "gimp mode" to minimize damage). The next time I drove it was to the mechanic, and the warning light didn't flash. It took 2 days for the mechanic to reproduce this and get the error codes. The mechanic said it could be sensors, solenoid, or the transmission could be shot. The only way to find out would be to open up the tranny ($480.00 labor). First, he will open up the transmission pan and run the fluid through a filter. If there are metal shavings, this means the transmission is shot. I find out on Monday. If its the transmission, I'm screwed. To rebuild cost $2500.00, the value of the car. Not alot of 13 yr old perfectly fine transmissions in junkyards. What really irks me is why the warning light would flash sometimes. If there are problems, why is it not flashing all of the time? What the heck kind of warning is that?
