CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.
The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

The SRS light will not go off after starting the car. It was tested by a Honda dealer and I was told that they reset the light but if it came on again, I would have to purchase a new SRS unit at a very high cost. Three hours after leaving the dealer, the light came back on and will not go off. Since this is a safety feature like the seat belts, the dealer/manufacturer should replace this at no cost to me.
I have a 2000 Accord, the SRS light came on and stays on. I have read that this condition will make my air bags useless until repaired. I will take my Honda in for the repair and hope that I will not be charged for this since it has been a Honda problem for several years according to Honda owners web sites.
SRS light is on all the time. It used to come on at different times, now it stays on all the time. It costs a lot of money to fix it. It is an important safety feature, and I feel airbags should have lifetime warranty just like seat belts. I noticed that this is a common problem in many 2000 and 2001 Honda Accord from searching on google.com
Hello I am writing about my Honda Accord LX, 2000, 4 cylinders. Without any reason (while driving the car), the SRS light went on. When I checked with the Honda dealer from where I purchased the car, they mentioned that the computer that controls the airbags is not working anymore. The cost to fix/replace the computer is $960. I research on the internet and there are many Honda Accord with the same problem. This is a very important safety module that should be fixed by Honda and not by the consumer. Thank you.
Air bag cel is on thus disable the air bag function in the car. Check system results in no apparent problem. Reset would clear the problem from 1 day to 1 month, then the cel is re-appeared again. According to the mechanic, the problem is a faulty air bag control module from the manufacture and affect many similar cars within this model year. People on the internet forum are experienced the same thing with this SRS warning light. Since this is related to the function of vehicle airbag system, this should be a major concern of safety issue. Please look into it and advice us....the consumer. So far, the Honda dealer does not acknowledge the existing problem and demand an expensive fix in the air bag control module. Thank you for your helps.

The SRS light stays on in my 2000 Honda Accord. The Honda dealership stated they reset the switch the first time I took my car in to be fixed. The light came back on a few days later. I took it back to the Honda dealership a second time and they said a switch in the seat belt needed to be replaced. In the mean time, the dealership stated that the air bags in my car are not working because of the SRS light being on.
2000 Accord SRS light on after 70K miles. This is allegedly due to increase cell phone usage. Its a common problem on this car should be recalled. Consequences are prevention airbag deployment, possible injury or death.
After a 200 mile drive on a rainy day (Nov 29,2005), the SRS light came on and has not gone off. The rain may be a coincidence. The vehicle was hit in front, but did not set off the airbags. Living in atlanta, driving in our traffic at a rate of 3000+ miles per month, I am not excited about not having working airbags. Several mechanics have attempted to diagnose, but no permanent solution has been found.
My car SRS indicator light started to come on back in April of 2005. It stays on while my car is on with and without passengers. I finally took my car to a mechanic hoping that they could reset the light. They told me that there is a malfunction in the air bag system and it could deploy at anytime. The mechanic also told me that this is quite common in this make and model. This is very frightening because I bought a Honda for their reputation for safety and quality. But to think that my airbags can deploy at anytime I drive or even not working in the case of an accident is very concerning. Please investigate this with the Honda Accord coupe models between 1998-2003. My car is a 2000 V6 Honda Accord coupe LX. Thanks.
At 84,366 miles my car's check engine light came on. Took Accord to mechanic and was told the egr valve error code appeared. The mechanic said to take to Honda due to recall for this part. Picked car up from mechanic and car also had SRS light on. Researched online since I already have recall for dash light. Found many other Honda owners with same SRS light. Found out my air bags will not function if sensor illuminated. Also, called Honda and they said I was beyond the mileage (80K) for the extended warranty on the defective egr valve replacement. Asked what Honda was doing about the front airbags and was told no decision has been made. I have also discovered my car has the extended warranty for defective/faulty transmission. So when I'm driving down the highway my tranmsmission may give out at high rate of speed and if collsion occurs, my air bags will not deploy. My seat weld joint broke at 54K too! I used a 99 Toyota 4runner as replacement vehicle and discovered the seatbelt warning light came on when my 40lb. Dog sat in passenger front seat. My Accord never has detected my dog in the front seat ever! this car is riddled with safety defects and poor manufacturing. Honda should be held responsible for protecting the owners from injury including monetary repairs/ replacement costs for all of these safety defects and engine defects.
SRS light keeps on. I have a 2000 Honda Accord V6 and have it maintained by O'donnell Honda(8620 baltimore national pike, ellicott city, md 21043). In Sept. 2005, the SRS light began to keep coming on. On Oct.18, 2005, I took my car to the O'donnell Honda. A representative/technician told me the air bag has no problem but it has a code 15-3 and need to be re-set. I was charged $41.50 for re-setting the SRS light. The SRS light kept off for about two weeks, then it came back and have kept coming on since then. If I keep taking my car to the dealer, it looks like they will keep charging me for the re-resetting because they said the air bag has no problem. I checked the internet and knew many people have the same problem with Accord and civic. I don't think the technicians in the dealer are able to solve this problem. It is the problem in Honda car design and specification. If the SRS light is on and the air bag has no problem, when the SRS light is off, the air bag may have problem?
I have this classic problem with my 2000 Accord SRS light is on again I been in the dealership for new transmission. 60000 miles it was replaced also my seat bucket for free, but the SRS light come on again 2 hours later, I took to the dealer and they told me they need to replace some module it cost me 500 dollars....2 days later the SRS light is on again, flashing, my alternator was replaced for a new according to the dealer is the reason my SRS light is on the cost me $ 400 to be replace and reset the light 3 days later my SRS light is on again, also my side air bag on and off all the time, I know me or some member of my family will be kill because of this bad air bag system Honda dealership, knows about this problems and don't do any thing about it just star charging money to everyone who is worry about this light, but the only thing they do is reset the light but no cure the problem, I have many time spent and money in this car, and still I am driving a car with out air bags...I wont buy a Honda never again...and I hope don't die driving this one with out air bags.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The SRS light came on for no reason, the failure was intermittent failure of SRS unit, what was done, Honda ran a system diagnosis and couldn't find problem, they cleared code for $98 dollars.
The SRS indicator light came on at 74,000 miles. From reading through the complaints, it seems this is a common problem with 2000 Honda Accord. It also seems that people have spent a lot of money to "try" to correct this problem, but with little success. Now I have to decide between spending a lot of money, possibly to no avail, or driving an unsafe car with no airbags. Please investigate asap and issue a recall, if needed, before someone dies.
My SRS light on my 2000 Honda Accord has come on and it means my airbags arent working. I brought it in to a dealership and they gave me some bs about electonic interference. They didnt give me a permanent fix and im nervous that my airbags might not work. Honda doesnt have a permanent solution for getting the SRS light fixed! why do I have to pay for fixing a safety issue that clearly is Honda's defective airbags?
Same problem as described in investigation #PE05043. The red SRS warning light stuck on in my 2000 Honda Accord exv6 recently. It is after the warranty expired. There are two lights related to airbag in the car, one red, one orange "side airbag off". the orange light comes on and off depends on whether there is a light object on the passenger seat or not. The red light indicates problems and does not goes off even there is nothing on the front passenger seat. It is the first time we saw the red light stuck on in the past 5 years since we bought the car new. From searching the internet, we know the problem is common, and can be recurring. Honda has the obligation to fix the design, and recall the cars. Please help us! let me know if you need further info regarding my car.
Car: 2000 Honda Accord 2dr V6 problem: SRS light after numerous computer resets, SRS light manages to come back on. After taking to dealer, was told on various occasions that it was due to faulty seat-belt sensor. Honda did not service due to out-of-warranty, and excessive cost to fix the sensor. Seems to be a manufacturer defect due to the nature of failure.
