CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.
The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

Airbag light indicator "SRS" is on all the time when the vehicle had 33000 miles. He vehicle was bought brand new and never been in any accidents.ealer found SRS code 9-3, meaning drive's seatbelt buckle switch failure temporary code). No sign of damage to the wire harness and wiring. Dealer cleared the code.
While driving air bag warning light illuminated. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The dealer replaced the driver's side air bag.
My 2000 Honda Accord ex has 60,000 miles. A week and a half ago, the SRS light came on indicating that there was a problem with my airbags. I took it to my mechanic who didn't know what the problem was. The light is still illuminated, which is bothersome since I'm driving around with faulty airbags. There apparently are several people who have encountered the same problem. There was even a recall issued for cars of my make and model that year for this problem, however, when I called Honda today, they said that my car isn't included in this. I would like to be able to get this corrected and believe Honda should be responsible for this since this seems to be quite a common problem with cars from my year. I have had no recent impacts that would cause the car to have such problems. It is less than 5 years old.
While driving the air bag warning light continuously illuminated on the dash board. As a result the air bags were inoperative and wouldn't deploy when needed. Dealer notified.

When consumer turned vehicle on the SRS light came on and stayed on. Consumer read in the manual that if the SRS light stayed on it indicated a problem with the system and that the vehicle was unsafe.
While driving 60 mph driver applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. This caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and hit the vehicle in front. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.
On or about August 2003, I brought my car in with about 12000 miles to dealer because the SRS light was going on. Dealer could not detect a problem. It when on or off until 95,000 miles. At 95,000 miles the light stood on. At 98,000 miles, I brought the car in to have the transmission inspected due to a recall. I asked dealer to checked my air bag problem. They detected problem as being a faulty air bag module. Unfortunately dealer, did not want to repair module under original warranty because it had expired. Although, I brought in my car at 12,000 miles letting them know of a problem. It was an expensive repair and opted not to have it repaired by the dealer. I took it to another mechanic and had the air bag system re- set. The light when off. However, the light came back on a month later. Currently, iam riding the car with no air bags on and the manufacturer refuses to honor my warranty when I first brought in the car to the dealer at 12,000 miles and informed me that it is not their responsibility. What can I do?
The vehicle experienced a problem with the SRS light which alerted the driver that if the vehicle was in an accident the air bags would not deploy. Problem has existed for several months.
While driving, the airbag warning light illuminated. This was an intermittent problem. The consumer contacted the dealer. The problem with air bag light was still occurring. The consumer was advised by dealer that there was no problem as long as the light did not stay on. The light came intermittently while driving and also when someone was sitting in the passenger seat. However the condition had not reappeared for 4 weeks.
I am having the same problem that thousands others are having with the SRS light staying on. Honda should take care of the bother some error code once and for all. People are paying $80 to $100 just for the diagnosis, then more to fix or reset the light. Please help us in this endeavor to ratify a annoying problem. Thank you in advance, paul radics.
I have a 2000 Honda Accord vtec V6. I take good care of it, and all of a sudden all the air bag systems have shutdown indicated by the SRS light. Now I am starting to have electrical failures left and right. Majority of my warning llights on, my console which include battery, all doors, trunk, and brake light lights are on. The transmission is starting to slip. I don't know if I got a bad Honda from the batch, but just being 2 years old, it is experiencing some tough problems. I also have the extened Honda plan upto 100,000 miles/6 yrs.. but of course the plan does not cover any of my problems. I don't have money to waste on the car that is nearly new, and I still owe 23000 on. Please help.
I discovered there is a recall on 2000 Honda Accord that pertain to airbags not deploying. My research discovered that the first sign there is a problem with the airbags is the SRS light on the dash comes on & stays on. This happened to my 2000 Honda Accord. 1 week ago I contacted emily in the service dept at rock Honda in fontana ca. I was told my VIN did not apply to the recall. I explained that my car is experiencing the same problem as the cars that were recalled. I asked how they could know for absolute sure that my airbag is not defective based on a VIN number. An answer was never provided. After pushing the issue emily scheduled an appointment with me to have the car looked at free of charge. Emily told me that she would for sure see me on the scheduled day and to make sure that I talk to her. At the time of the appointment it was found that emily had gone on vacation w/O informing me about my scheduled appointment possibly needing to be changed, nor did she leave any info for the service members about my situation. I was told to just inspect the car it would cost $75 and since the SRS light is on there is definitely something wrong w/ my airbag and it would cost an additional $800 to fix. Honda said that they will not fix my car free of charge because of my VIN number, even though they are aware that there is indeed a serious safety problem w/ defective airbags in the 2000 Honda Accord. It was also found that since my car is a Canadian Honda, but was sold to me brand new in so. California at rock Honda, that american Honda will not deal with the situation and have been told that Canadian Honda cannot force a U.S. dealership to fix the problem. My concern is I drive 6 days a week to & from work. A 1 way trip is 45 minutes long in heavy stop & go traffic. I'm extremely scared I will have an accident & will be injured because my airbags will not deploy. I feel lucky in the 3 & half years I've owned the car I have not yet had an accident.
SRS light illuminates for no apparent reason. Has been traced to the passenger seat sensor. Dealers claim this SRS component not covered under warranty. SRS system is disabled when the SRS light is illuminated. A simple reset of the SRS system does not permanently fix the problem.
