Accord LX 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 15,000 miles

I purchased my car brand new with miles on it. After about 3,000 miles of driving, I started to notice my car would have a rough idle and I could feel the vibration on my steering wheel when the car was engaged in a gear such as drive or reverse. I brought my car to the dealer twice and they keep saying they can't find a problem with my car. The vibration is noticeably worse when my car A/C is on. I still have no answer and my car is nearing 25K miles.

Accord Touring 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 33,000 miles

As another mentioned, just onslaught problems with the 2016 Accord Touring. Bought it certified used Nov 2017 with 32K miles on it. Great fit for me being 6' 2", just about the only sedan I could fit in personally. I've heard nothing but good things about Honda life expectancy, as its my 1st Honda I was very excited. After owning the car for about a month I had the great experience of having the day time running light LED strip half burnt out. (1st issue) Dealer wanted to charge $140 for diagnostic, but refundable if I spend $1,100 to get a whole new headlight assembly. Over engineered much? After working with another dealer they agreed it will be covered under factory warranty which expires at 36K miles... I bought this car for reliability and to last a long time, I drive them till they die... But who the hell is going to spend over $1,000 for a LIGHT BULB! "Sorry officer, I'm driving without lights because I decided to eat this month instead of maxing out my credit card." (JOKE)

2nd Issue - After having the car for 1 month and only about 33k miles on it, I noticed it pulls heavily to the left. When braking even worse. 2 other drivers of my car told me the same thing. Had alignment done $ out of my pocket. They said alignment was slightly off but good to go. Still pulled slightly left. Honda dealer said it could be bad tires... $650 for 2 front tires... Pound sand bud, they're practically new. Had them rotated helped a little. Naturally the dealer blamed the roads. Bull Crap, I drive the same route to/ from work previously with an 07' pontiac and a 14' Jeep. No issues with the "road."

3rd Issue I noticed and have seen numerous other complaints about the character in the transmission. Down shifting is horrendous in stop and go traffic that I do. I'd say my average speed is 20-40 mph. Honda dealer says this is "normal." Another issue with the transmission is I'll be sitting on a slight decline to take a left turn, just over 1 mile and 5 minutes of car running after work. When accelerating it does a lurch just bad enough for me to get whip lash. At first I thought it WAS the road, but then it keeps happening, and I've seen other reviews complaining of the same thing. Naturally dealer wants me to bring it in so they can replicate it, but I know how that will go. "Everything is fine"

4th issue just started 4 months after owning the car. Now at 35,500 miles (36k factory expiring soon) With the dual screens for radio/ nav... Bottom screen frozen where as the top screen will change when changing radio stations. Hoping to get that resolved under warranty.

5th issue is petty-ish but when hitting rougher roads the trunk rattles like a sob. There's nothing in the trunk bumping around either, this is plastic on plastic. Cheap and no insulation / cushion.

Sold my 07' Pontiac which had better shifting, better stereo, no rattles, $3 when I needed a headlight. Such a disappointment. 1st Honda and probably my last. The Mrs. has the 14' Jeep with 8 speed transmission. Shifts so smooth. In fact I think the SUV actually has a more comfortable ride than this 2016 Honda Accord Touring that is supposed to be Hondas top of the line.

Accord Sport 2.4L

  • CVT transmission
  • 11,500 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

The CVT transmission always feels like it is slipping upon acceleration onto the highway. Recently it is getting worse by staying in a lower gear like it is stuck and doesn't want to shift into final drive highway gear. It also jumps around through gears like it is confused which gear it wants to be in. Taking to dealer to have them check fluid levels and see if there is an update for the PCM.

Update from Apr 29, 2018: Took vehicle to dealer and asked them to check CVT fluid during oil change service. Service Advisor offered to go for a ride to verify shifting concern. Advisor was informed the CVT has a mind of its own and very consistent with shifting problems in the morning when cold after sitting overnight, then seems to smooth out as it gets to operating temp. Also randomly sticks in low gear when hot while on the highway, very hard to duplicate. I asked him to please check the fluid level before we take this concern any further. Got the car back and started acting up on the way home (highway-stuck in lower gear) after service and CVT fluid level check. CVT fluid check was not written on my invoice. I researched the CVT fluid level check procedure, conducted the fluid level check procedure at home, and found the CVT to be overfilled by about 1 Quart of fluid. After following Honda tech procedure by draining the fluid down to the correct level, it has smoothed out drastically. I don't even feel the shifts anymore. City driving is perfect, doesn't feel like it's slipping anymore. I'm currently at 14,902 miles. Occasionally I get a delayed shift to a higher gear after getting onto a level surface from climbing a hill (on the highway). other than that, it has been fine. City driving does not duplicate the concern. I'm changing the fluid at 15,000 miles to see if it helps the highway concern. I don't trust the dealer. I will spend the $10.00 and download the service tech info from Honda website and change the fluid myself. Will update my comments again after I change the fluid.

Update from May 9, 2018: Changed the CVT Fluid at 14,999 mile using OE parts and fluid. Paid subscription to manufacture's tech website (online shop service manual) for tech specs of drain, refill, and fluid level check procedure. I have driven the car approximately 300 miles mixed of city/highway usage. The transmission is very smooth. Previous delayed shifts and searching for gears has diminished completely. I don't feel or notice the CVT shifting, very smooth. My assumption is when the vehicle CVT transmission front main seal was replaced at 5400 miles, possible incorrect fluid was utilized during repair and it was excessively overfilled. Feels like i'm driving a different car now.

Update from Feb 4, 2020: CVT Fluid was changed 2 additional times. Once by the Honda Service Department around 24,000 miles, which immediately after service the CVT transmission started acting strangely again. I got home, checked the CVT Fluid level immediately and the CVT Fluid was LOW (under filled). I added 1/2 quart of Honda CVT Fluid HCF 2, performed a transmission sequence and then immediately re-checked the CVT Fluid level, it was still low. I added the remainder of the CVT Fluid, total 1 Quart, performed another transmission sequence, then re-checked the CVT fluid and then it was trickling out of the check plug hole. Allowed it to drain to a slow drip (to Honda SPEC) and the CVT has been fine. I did perform another fluid change after the Dealer performed the service to ensure a good drain and refill of fresh fluid and to ensure 100% the fluid level was correct. Problems with every service department I got to, doesn't matter where I go.

Accord EX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,500 miles

The following symptom occurs on occasion during cold weather (below 32 degrees) and with a cold engine: While accelerating from a stop, the transmission feels like it's in the wrong gear initially, eventually causing the car to lurch quickly at a certain point as it corrects the situation (my head has snapped back and hit the head rest when this happens!). I'm guessing this could also be a throttle problem.

Accord EX 3.2L

The honeymoon lasted all of 3 weeks since we started noticing the lag in acceleration between 5 - 10MPH and for no apparent reason sudden deceleration as if we stepped on the brake. Dealer service looked at, changed transmission fluid and told us to take it for a ride - al problems fixed. Not so fast! As soon as we came home, noticed same issues again. Planning on taking the car to a different dealership to try our luck.

After we had terrible transmission (3 times replaced) experience w Honda van, we were not even looking Honda cars for about 12 years till now. Looks like Honda and transmission problems wont go away.

I purchased my 2016 Honda Touring. Super excited about this car. Very much a sports sedan al around. Major Flaw... Transmission problems. I noticed a scraping sound while changing gears from R to D and D to P . I also feel like the car down shift as if in Sports mode. I also noticed a rough shifting in between 1,2,3 gear. and sometimes 5 and 6. It makes this experience with this accord over all bad. I was undecided between a Audi S4 and this Touring edition Accord, I think I chose wrong. I am not happy with the transmission issues, I took it to the dealer and of course they found nothing wrong with the transmission. As soon as I pay down on this car, I will trade away.

Bummer.

Accord Touring 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30 miles

We purchased a 2016 Accord EX-L in January of 2016. After 4 months of driving it we didn't like the feel of the CVT transmission. So in April of 2016, we traded the car in for the touring model which has a normal 6 speed automatic transmission. Well from day one we noticed it shifted funny. It would downshift so abruptly it felt like someone stepped on the brakes. Also while traveling in traffic it constantly hunts for gears. When slowing down the transmission will sometimes make a clunking noise when shifting into a lower gear. We waited until I put a few miles on the car to bring it into the dealer to see if it got better. It now has 5200 miles on it

So this week June 23 2016 I dropped the car off at the dealer to have it's first scheduled maintenance and the transmission looked at. I received a call about an hour and a half from the service writer how told me they could find nothing wrong with the transmission. No surprised as they also found nothing wrong with any of the other issues I also brought the car in for.

This my 4th Honda Accord and I am quite disappointed in the quality of this vehicle and it makes me question if I will purchase another one in the future.

Accord Touring V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 300 miles

I picked up my 2016 Accord Touring when they very first came out in September 2015 (it was the first one the dealer had, in fact). I was very excited to start driving it, but quickly realized the transmission has a lot of "character" as another person put it.

The transmission has a very annoying tendency to downshift at inappropriate times when decelerating, whether to come to a stop, go through a turn, or just slow down a bit. That would be fine, if the engine braking wasn't so severe during the process. I often have to let off the brake or even give it some gas while slowing down because the car slows down too much, causing me to stop short, or just go slower than desired.

The transmission seems way too eager to downshift and cause engine braking. This makes coasting either non-existent or short-lived.

I've taken it to the dealer twice and both times they don't really seem to know what to do. The first time, I took it in specifically for the transmission acting strangely. They couldn't noticed the issue, but said to let them know if it keeps happening. The second time was for a loud rattle in the gauge cluster at highway speeds, but I mentioned this issue was still occurring.

Accord Touring 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10 miles

OK, so was so excited to get my new Accord Touring V6. Unfortunately my excitement was soon dashed as I noticed a really annoying issue of the transmission downshifting and causing engine braking during light braking on level ground. It is quite severe and the engine braking effect is similar to a manual transmission with someone dropping the clutch too quickly. It is so severe that it will over brake the car and I have to let up on the brakes or I will stop short! Some times the engine braking effects the brake booster and the brake pedal actually drops due to the loss of engine vacuum (getting a little technical sorry). Anyway, it is very counter intuitive in today's fuel economy minded world as this car does not coast but instead it down shifts and slows down the car when coasting on level ground. Please don"t confuse this with grade logic where coasting down a steep hill and braking at the same time may cause modern transmissions to apply engine braking. It happens on level ground. It happens like clock work. During coasting or light braking on level ground at around 42 then 30, then about 22 MPH.There is sometimes another bump just before the car comes to a complete stop so I have to believe its the transmission shifting into first gear. I have had it to the dealer in March and they have said this is normal. I can't believe this is the way a modern six speed transmission should function. I have a 2012 Mazda CX9 with a 3.7 liter V6 and a six speed transmission and it shifts perfectly!

Accord Touring V6

  • Automatic transmission

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

The transmission in my new 2016 Honda Accord Touring is very interesting... I am a first time Honda owner, and I had this idea of wonderfully reliable drive-train components; once I started driving it full time (versus just the brief test drive), I started noticing some the transmission has alot of "character".

1. I have read it here so I will comment, I have noticed a unique noise when shifting into drive. It doesn't sound concerning to me - I just figured it was the normal sound of a different design I would get used to

2. I am concerned that the transmission shift schedule is overly simplified - I have noticed in the users manual that the transmission has specific speeds where it shifts. I find that odd as speed is not specifically the driving factor for deciding whether or not to shift up or down (or perhaps they over simplified the users manual).

I have not really noticed this while shifting up (or it happens infrequent enough that I cannot recall a specific instance right now), but when slowing down I find that instead of coasting, like a normal car would, the car down shifts at very specific speeds, e.g. 30 MPH, and causes severe engine breaking. I typically drive in stop and go highway traffic, so for a while I thought I was just causing the collision avoidance system to engage, but, as I gained more experience driving on weekends with no traffic, it became clear that it is an engine break situation causing the jerky downshift.

Overall the speed brake issue is very annoying. Passengers have even commented on why I brake so hard and seemingly out of nowhere when every normal human being would coast.

I also believe this issue has potential safety implications. In the sort of stop and go traffic millions of daily commuters and I find myself in, I feel at risk of being rear ended. Where the engine braking occurs around 30 MPH, and I think one at a lower speed around 15 MPH, is right in the sweet spot for stop and go traffic, and the majority of cars do not slow down so quickly without using their brakes. I am concerned that someone behind me will not notice I am slowing down because my brake lights will not be activated by the engine brake.

Accord EXL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 600 miles

I purchased a new 2016 Honda accord EXL V6, and the transmission had horrible down-shift with audible "thud" and jerk of car. I noticed when I shift from D to R or R to D the transmission makes this light, yet weird scrapping noise; as if something snapped during the shift. It doesn't happen every time but one time is too many for a 2016. If I remove my foot from the gas pedal or begin to brake at cruising speeds between 15 - 40 MPH the car decrease in speed as if I'm in sport mode or I've manually downshifted. This happens more often than anything else.

I took it to the dealer with only 600 miles, and they refused to admit that the car has transmission problems. My car has now 1900 miles and still with the same issues.

Had to take in 2016 Touring in the 3rd week with less than 500 miles.

Transmission had horrible down-shift with audible "thud" and jerk of car. Drove on eggshells for 2 days, only to have it occur again, this time with Emissions Problem and Transmission Problem, Check Engine Lights coming on.

Took to dealer. Currently looking at replacing transmission after only 500 miles!!!!

I bought a 2016 Pilot Touring earlier in the year, and now I'm concerned about that. I bought a new car for the piece of mind, pride, and reliability. This is not living up to expectations. Now everytime I get in, I'm left wondering if this is a lemon, or if this new model is not reliable.
