CR-V IV V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I took the car in to my trusted mechanic after a few days of progressively more significant banging noises when driving and after a sudden failure to pick up followed by a flashing of the D light on the instrument panel. (I actually drove it straight there when that happened.) I was told that the transmission was shot and that it is consistently slipping out of 3rd gear. The only option is to replace the transmission or rebuild it.

The car is only 8 years old! It has been well maintained so I am at a loss. I have had lots of cosmetic issues as well -- the window trim panels started flaking year three as if I lived at the beach (I do not) and Honda told me this was cosmetic and not covered. Then the interior door trim started falling in every time I opened the passenger side doors. Again -- cosmetic and not covered. The rear camera failed last month and now this.

I bought a Honda because I was told it would run forever and the CRV had one of the highest resale values. I have owned multiple cars of varying brands and while they all had their issues, I have NEVER had any with transmission failure. Honda's response was that there were no known recalls for this issue on this year make and model and I am out of warranty. (there were recalls on later and earlier models for transmission) The customer service representative recommended taking it to a Honda dealership to confirm the diagnosis but of course nothing would be covered.

I would not expect to see this in an 8 year old Honda. I have no idea if the car will ever have any value now even if I replace the engine and am questioning the safety of the car ... I certainly do not want my 16 year old driving it even if I repair it. Anyone else have this issue? Anyone have any recommendations?

CR-V LX 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,000 miles

I had a Honda civic and it lasted until 300,000 miles with only small problems. I buy a CRV 2011 and at 125,000 the transmission goes out. That isn't the worst, there are six different type of transmissions for this model To make matters worse, there are not parts in Indiana (because of course the type of transmission in mine is impossible to find. Its the one of six hardest to find). The person taking the transmission out says it is far harder to remove the Honda one vs Chevy or Ford ( so of course that adds to , labor cost). The total cost for this is $3600!!!! I took very good care of the car as I drive it for work and its mostly highway miles. I will never again buy a Honda or any kind of SUV for that matter.
