CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

The problem that we are experiencing on and off for more than 1 year while driving the car is warning lights all coming up and disabling the key safety features: Brake system failure, lane keeping assist problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, and adaptive cruise control problem. This happen at normal city driving, freeway driving, with cruise control on and/or with cruise control off. The car is still operational but with warning lights. When you turn off the car, and restart the issues may or may not go away. When it does go away, it will randomly occur again. This problem happen when we had the car for 3 day old after buying it brand new and took it back to dealer and they look at it and did a software install. But, it never corrected the problem. We have live with this issues for more than a year now and are now fed up. We are frustrate of the thought of bringing it to the dealer and having the same thing happen to us again.

User interface (ui) for radio operates inconsistently. Began having issues within a few weeks of owning the vehicle. Touchscreen repeatedly freezes, goes black, or the volume is unable to be controlled. Frequently the volume will go all the way to the highest level alone or while you are trying to adjust it up/down. The only solution for all of the radio issues are to roll the windows down so you don't lose your hearing and pull the car over, shut the car off, & restart the car. This is startling when the volume goes all the way up and is a major safety concern. You cannot hear what's going on around you & are in a dangerous predicament in trying to get pulled over somewhere safe to restart your car. I began reporting the issue in September 2017 to my dealership and was told the problem was with apple. Now Honda states that it is a "known issue" but has provided no solution. I have numerous videos of these occurrences for documentation. Additionally, my engine oil smells of gasoline. The dipstick reads high and the Honda dealership has advised me to change the oil every 1,000 miles and to not drive short trips. The engine hesitated once while in traffic. The engine does not heat up at idle and during cold weather you cannot operate your window defroster. This causes safety issues because you can't see out the windows. The only solution is to ride with the windows down when it's cold in order to see. While driving the car down the interstate at approx. 20,000 miles I heard a pop. When I arrived at my destination, I saw that the gear shifter knob popped out. This rendered me unable to shift my car from drive to any other gear. Honda seems to be aware of this issue, as the service tech and advisor both stated that this happens "all the time." Dealership replaced knob. Honda made a defective & dangerous product. They refuse to remedy the problems.

I bought this car April of 2017 and I already have a electrical problem after a month. We went for a vacation and as we went back, my car is not starting anymore. I reported this to perfection Honda and they told me that my battery is in 100 percent ok. Last thanksgiving (2018) it did the same thing. The biggest one is engine oil smells gas on it. I tried to report this to perfection Honda, albuquerque New Mexico but reasoned out that there are no recalls for this car. I'm not recommending CRV ex and upper models to any consumer same with perfection Honda for poor service quality.

Engine stalled multiple times in last one year when accelerating from yeld/stop. It happed twice while yielding and merging onto highways; we were lucky there were no vehicles on highway during merging, otherwise situation would have the worst. Also all warning lights on the dash board flashes with failure warnings. At that point engine almost stalled running only at speed of 10 M/H atleast which helped me to pull off the highway. I switched off and on, engine came live, but all the warning lights were still there. Warnings on the dashboard were cleared only next day after whole night idle. I took the vehicle to Honda dealer, explained the problem and also provided them the video that my friend sitting in the passenger seat recorded while incident happened. Dealership tried to pull the error code, but none were found. Dealer asked me to keep the vehicle with dealership as they need to reproduce the issue. Fortunately they reproduced the exact same issue, and found the engine cylinder misfires in 1 and 4. they intimated Honda engineering for assistance, and Honda assisted them to recalibrate the system without finding the root cause. Dealership recalibrated and directed by Honda and told me that if the issue happens again that will be fixed under warranty. All these transcripts were recorded in service history of my vehicle. The same issue appeared yesterday again. When I researched about the issue on internet, most of them complained about the enginle oil and gas mixup. I checked my oil level with oil check stick provided by Honda, and oil levels are way above than max mark and oil smells like gasoline; and more over the oil look very thin almost like water thickness.

Since purchasing my Honda CR-V 1.5 turbo in 2017 I have experienced two episodes of my car stalling out while driving on nyc streets. On both of these occasions I narrowly avoided getting rear ended and being forced into the car in front of me, due to the fact that the car behind me swerved to avoid colliding into me. I have also experienced many failures of my Honda sense system whereby my adaptive cruise control system failed, my road departure mitigation system failed, where my audio power went off, my auto high beam system had failures, which lead me to feel very uneasy driving my vehicle. At all times, my vehicle was in motion. I have experienced these system failures while driving on city streets as well as while driving on country roads and also while driving on highways! this was not a one time occurrence. These things have happened many times!

While driving my 2017 Honda CR-V ex-L on highway (the trip was about 10 hours), about half way of my trip, I could not reach the speed to 55mph with speed limit of 70mph. My odometer was reading around 30000mi. About two months later (just two weeks ago) I took another 2 hour one way trip, similar thing happened to me again on my way back (I could only drive at about 60mph with speed limit of 70mph). I raised the issue with local Honda dealer and they told me to schedule an appointment. I will see what they are going to tell me about the diagnostic checkup. In addition to above possible engine/power/fuel related issues, I had two incidents of dead battery without doing anything after stopping my car. One time (summer 2018) I drove to my son's private teacher's house and parked outside. After the lesson I couldn't start my car. It took 4 hours for Honda roadside assistance to come and found out the battery was dead. After the gentleman jump started my car it was driving fine. In September 2018 I did my oil change, the dealer's exam showed battery life good. Then just about 4 weeks ago in October 2018, my car parked in my garage and it couldn't start again. The roadside assistance found out the battery was dead and no battery life. Honda dealer replaced the battery for me.

On more than one occasion I've come outside to discover all 4 of my 2017 CRV's windows and moonroof open. I've gotten rain damage because my windows and roof ended up open during a major rainstorm. The "venting' feature of the car apparently was activated without my knowledge. I have since learned (in discovering similar complaints online) that this is a known and common problem. It represents a defect in the design of the remote key fob. My understanding is that there is no way to disable this. This occurred both times when the vehicle was stationery, sometime after exiting the vehicle.

Battery drains out completely and car won't start.. just 18000 miles. 4 times in 3 days. First time I thought maybe I had not switched off something when I parked so it may have drained. Had to call aaa. After it happened 3 more times in 3 days realized that there is some major issue. Honda has a service bulletin 17-032 but to sure this applies. This being Sunday will take it to dealership tomorrow. Too many complaints regarding this issue on the internet.

Alarm will go off randomly. Clicking lock/unlock on the key fob does not turn the alarm off. Inserting the key into the door was the only way to turn the alarm off. The message "keyless start system problem" was displayed on the dash when I entered the car. I turned my car on, but when trying to turn the car off, there were clicking noises, the dash flickered repeatedly, and the car would not turn off. It took about 15 minutes of clicking the push start/stop button to get the car to turn off. It was towed to Honda (tow truck driver had trouble getting the car onto the bed because all of the safety braking features were randomly activating) and Honda replaced some wiring and said I was good to. Two days later the car wouldn't start. Had it towed to Honda again and they said it was a bad battery. They replaced the battery and sent me on my way. The next day the alarm went off again, same issue with not being able to turn it off, and the same keyless start system problem was on the dash. I started the car, then turned the car off, went into the house, and the alarm went off again 15 minutes later. I disconnected the battery and will take it back to Honda tomorrow. Note, when I popped the hood to disconnect the battery, the electricity turned back on in the car by itself. I now suspect the electricity is turning on by itself and after sitting idle for a while the alarm activates.

The vehicle was taken to billy wood Honda (1909 w hillsboro St, el dorado, ar 71730, (870) 863-5400) where the computer was updated, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where the contact was notified that the manufacturer updated the computer again. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred for a third time, but the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. Also, while inspecting the oil, the contact noticed it was overfilled and smelled like fuel. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 9,300.

I was driving at about 45mph, and had to stopped in median of road to turn right. All of a sudden my Honda CRV 2017 stopped and all dashboard lights started flashing, it started showing all the following problems. 1) brake system problem 2) brake hold system problem 3) airbag system (SRS) problem 4) power steering system (eps) problem 5) anti-lock brake system problem 6) vehicle stability assist (vsa) problem 7) hill start assist problem 8) adaptive cruise control problem 9) collision mitigation system problem 10) road departure mitigation system problem 11) auto high-beam problem 12) tire pressure monitor problem 13) all wheel drive system problem 14) lane keeping assist cannot operate 15) seat belt warning on and beeping even though seat belt was being worn. I tried to turn off, and turn on, nothing happened. Exited the vehicle, checked the car. No physical damage. Tried to start 2-3 times more, still no luck. I called the roadside assistance, and towed the car to dealer. Dealer kept the car for 4 hours, and called me that it was low gas issue, and charged me $88. I am sure it was not low gas, and even if it was low gas, car warning should tell its not starting due to low gas. It should not be that all 15 errors start showing on dashboard.

The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. while driving approximately 25 mph, the display screen message appeared indicating a security system failure and that the tailgate door was open. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the tailgate door was secured. Next, the sensor erroneously indicated that the front driver side door was ajar. Moments later, while driving, the collision avoidance system erroneously activated and the vehicle abruptly came to a complete stop although no other vehicles were in the vicinity. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer (dnc Honda, 28 county rd, tenafly, NJ 07670), but the failures could not be duplicated. According to the dealer, the manufacturer indicated that the failures were due to the cell phone being used inside the vehicle. As a result, the bluetooth was deactivated. The failure mileage was 2,600.
