sensing harness (soy-based) chewed by rodents sensing harness (soy-based) chewed by rodents

How can they think that making wiring covers made of soy will solve environmental problems? If you are going to use wiring made with a soy base, then you really need to cover any cost for repairs that are and will be needed over and over from rodents. Not only mice or rats, squirrels and other animals can smell this out and destroy the wiring. I was told that one man has had his main harness replaced 3 times.

I am an elderly disabled senior on a FIXED INCOME. I cannot afford to buy this car and then turn around before it is even a year old to have fork out $1400.00 for a new wiring harness. You knew this would happen, but did not care!!! Therefore your product is highly defective!! I will never buy another Honda Car and I will definitely promote the problem of the wiring to inform others not to purchase these vehicles!!! The poor service that you have given customers is totally WRONG!!!!

By doing this, they are creating a completely different problem. Mice, rats and rodents carry all kinds of diseases and by enticing them with soy based wiring, you are causing another problem that could be much worse for your customers, if they were to be bitten by these RODENTS!!! Why don't you people think about what would be worse, the environment or dead customers and the lawsuits from that?!

sensing harness (soy-based) chewed by rodents

I have had this car less than a year, with only 4500 miles on it. I have lived in my home for over 25 years, without any problem like this. Driving down the road, all of the sensors on the dashboard went off, blinking different things over and over. Took it to the local Honda dealer where we bought it and found out the next day that the HONDA CR-V W/ SENSING HARNESS had been chewed on by a rat. I was told it was not under the warranty for this repair.

The technician even told me that it has been happening to their cars for some time, due to the manufacturer switching all of the wirings to more environmental wires. These new wires are soy-based, instead of oil-based in the electrical system. Being that they are a bean plant, and rats love food. They have been aware of this problem since 2017. One of their customers has had his replaced 3 times.

But instead of trying to fix this problem, they are charging approximately $1,600.00 for it to be replaced. This is something that should have been taken care of after the first year. Instead, customers are having to pay for the repair, and if not the whole amount, they would still be responsible for the deductible, for each time it needs to be replaced. If making a change to help the environment, make sure that it is not going to cost any customers unnecessary repairs, not covered under their warranty for life of the car.
