Spare tire separated from 2007 Honda Pilot. Cause was a frayed cable that held the tire in place under the rear of the vehicle. The cable broke while the vehicle was in motion, and the tire fell off the vehicle and bounced down the road. Fortunately it did not strike cars to the rear. There was no previous indication of anything wrong with the spare time mounting system. Photos are available.
