From 2010 to 2011, complaints about the vehicle not starting increased 10-fold. In fact, the 2011 model year is riddled with engine problems and a defective TIPM might be to blame. The TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) distributes power to all the eletrical components in the vehicle, so when it starts acting funny so do numerous other components in the car. Orders for new TIPMs were so abundant that parts became scarce, prompting a class-action lawsuit claiming Chrysler ignored this obvious defect.
By 2012 complaints dropped back down by about 80%. Needless to say, if you see a used 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a lot just keep walking.
Safety - I filed a complaint with NHTSA (People who mandate recalls). The wrinkles in the leather dash could cause an irregular passenger airbag deployment.

I am definitely disappointed in the poor quality of the leather overlay on my dash. Looks like they did not use a good glue. After spending 50K on a vehicle, I would have never believed the poor workmanship that has shown itself. Of course the dealer says sorry it is out of warranty because it has over 36,000 miles. Well, the car was purchased at the end of 2011 and should be taken into consideration. I hate to say this, but I will be headed to BMW for my next SUV.
Sad thing is, we have been loyal Dodge customers for our entire adult lives and even race and show classic Mopar vehicles. We have stood behind Chrysler and would like for Chrysler to stand behind their product!
The level of customer service was atrociously
apathetic and unprofessional! I paid 50k for
a cosmetic nightmare only 3 years into the
vehicle and also purchased an extended warranty
for up to 100k however they say this is not covered
by the warranty! I say what about being covered by
a quality manufacturing process that does not
result in my dashboard looking like it has the
Bubonic Plague with boils. For 2 months I have tried
to get an intelligent explanation for this pathetic defect.
Chrysler/jeep is incapable of that or an apology!
Their unprofessional employees that I dealt with in
Denver were rude, inept, non apologetic and
simply could care less. I must pay 600 to fix it or they refuse to help. I would be insane to pay that on top of 50k
so the only voice of reason was me in a sea of denial and apathy and I said No!! Stay away
from Chrysler/Jeep!!! I tried to support USA manufacturing but Chrysler has
betrayed my loyalty. They charge top dollar but you definitely do not get a quality product!!
Low mile, high cost vehicle. This problem should not happen. Have MOPAR's best, lifetime warranty & today I find out that it is not covered by the warranty. So much for Jeep quality.
Update from Aug 8, 2017: OK folks another success story. Working w/ my dealer was worthless; they were absolutely no help. But shortly after my original post I sent a letter to the President of FC America stating the problem w/ the dash cover. First, I'm a lawyer and second we have a legal theory here in Louisiana called Rehibition (separate from 'Lemon Laws'). Basically it states that if you had known about the defect in the item you purchased (the car) prior to the purchase, you would not have made the purchase. This is what I explained to the President of the company in my letter. I received a call from a gentleman shortly after my letter had been delivered - he advised he was from the executive office. He quickly advised that Jeep would take care of the problem. We agreed that I would pay a certain amount to the dealer ($1,000) and they would waive the rest and then send me a check for the $1,000. That is what they did and the result - now I'm a happy camper.
The car passed 36,000 miles in February and sometime about April the leather dash began to peel up in the area of the passenger airbag and it is peeling off around the vent for the windshield defroster. It now looks cheap and awful. Everyone who looks at our car now immediately mentions the peeling dash and how cheap it looks!
I took it to the dealership and it was "too bad" out of the original 3 year / 36000 miles. I asked if my Chrysler Max Care warranty could help and of course it does not cover interior trim pieces.
The dealership quoted 1800.00 for a new dash top piece and $900.00 labor (because it would take "all day"). I want to be a mechanic. If you can get paid $900+ a day I want to work for Chrysler!
To charge that much for labor and full price for interior trim just a few thousand miles out of warranty makes me not recommend Chrysler / Jeep to anyone because they want a premium price but they are using inferior materials.
In contrast. My 2005 Honda Odyssey has 120,000 miles on it, sits in the same conditions as the GC and its black leather dashboard still looks brand new, no fading, no peeling, no drying out.
This was an expensive vehicle! If they do not have quality leather and glue that can stand up they should have used something different. Don't just use leather if it will not last! This should be under warranty but at 53000 miles I doubt it will be covered!

We paid a good amount for this vehicle, and the dashboard literally looks like it is melting away. The funny thing is, I park my car in a parking garage at work and under a car port at home. This vehicle has spent more time in the sun while waiting on getting serviced than it has anywhere else.
My 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland has had two issues - the rear liftgate started opening on its own. After much deliberation it was determined that one of the key fobs were "bad" and needed to be replaced. (Even though that particular keyfob was nowhere near the vehicle when it opened at the store). Of course, they did not have one in stock and had to order one which took almost a week to come in and it is not covered under warranty. For a mere $300 +/- (labor and key) and the requirement I turn in the "bad" key fob the problem is supposedly resolved.
More importantly, and I am sure coincidentally, the dash on my Jeep is lifting and bubbling. I also was told that this is not covered under my extended warranty. I was advised today that for $2700 they can order a new dash and grill (of course one is not in stock). No other alternative solution was given. I am going to look into an auto shop that does custom work - ?!
And of course, I am still waiting to have the brake recall done. I have been told by the dealership that they only order the recall parts in on a bulk orders; then, I was told that the parts are on backorder. So, three weeks later, no fix on the recall either.
I cannot believe these items are not covered under extended warranty. Why bother!
