CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Grand Cherokee hasn't seen the same complaint volume as the 2011, at least not yet.

It's worth noting both model years are part of a class-action lawsuit that focuses on a defective TIPM and a long wait for replacement parts.

The 2012 also received national attention after it failed a Swedish Magazine's "moose test". The test measures a vehicle's ability to swerve out of the way of an obstacle you wouldn't want to hit while driving down the road ... like a moose.

My 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo has stalled when turning on and has often not turned on. When driving the vehicle the car has shut off almost causing an accident.this has happened on many occasions. The car accelerates often when driving the lights, airbag symbols, etc turn on erratic. I had to replace the alternator and battery due to faulty timp which Jeep has recalls on however not my year although-my car has the same problems which I have to pay for and I have researched and many other Jeep owners have the same issues and Jeep is very aware and are not taking responsibility, I feel unsafe driving this car especially with my children, the car is unreliable and have been late to work due to the car stalls and lack og turning on. This car has a mind of its own starts when it feels like it, speeds up on its own, lights turn on off, tells U keys left the car when it hasn't. very angry at Jeep I should not have to pay for faulty equipment due to your negligence!

Multiple incidents - stopped at corner heading uphill. Happened to touch both brake and gas pedals at the same time. I found that when going into the intersection at the change of light, no gas (propulsion) for approx. 5 seconds. Complained to service mgr. He advised he had heard this before and would contact Chrysler. Never heard from him again. Over the two years this problem occurred about 4 times. I have since been told that Nissan has also engineered this into their cars as if this makes it right.

Jeep was turned on while brake was applied. Engine began to rev, Jeep then lurched forward while brake was still applied. Jeep came to stop approximately 40 feet from where the Jeep was turned on. It was a scary ride, no control over the vehicle.

I was driving my Jeep from a stop sign and it all of a sudden slowed down and would not accelerate. The engine light comes on and forces me to pull over, restart it and it runs fine after that. Well, it's happened 3 times after this and I have arranged a 7am service for it on Monday. The book says check the gas cap or it may be bad gas, but I burned the gas down to 15 miles left and filled it with super unleaded. No matter what I do, like shift into N, rev the engine, nothing works until I pull over and restart it.

Problem developed just after 10,000 miles with mild vibration on acceleration. Problem persisted and got worse. I had vehicle checked by dealer and head mechanic at 15,000 when in for oil change. Definitely was a problem, took a day to diagnose with help from Jeep. /Chrysler said it was failure of the transfer case/drivetrain control module. It took from June 25 until August 19 to obtain new module. During that time vehicle vibration worsened further requiring backing off on acceleration and then continuing acceleration to get up to highway speed. Very much like riding on a bad washboard road plus noise coming from under front and then additional noise from rear. When going up moderate inclines back end began strongly vibrating to the point where it felt back end was going to start hopping plus a clunk noise. Backing down acceleration and then reaccelerating would lessen problem but still made vibration. Final cause after repair: Cause listed as broken propeller shaft with universal joints, replaced transfer case to rear axle; replace rear prop shaft due to carrier bearing failure causing vibration; replace final drive control module per diagnosis for shuttering in driveline. Vehicle has 17,578 miles at repair completion. Problem appears fixed in the first 500 miles I have driven since repair.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times and the manufacturer sent several engineers to further inspect the failure. The manufacturer was not able to determine what caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40 and the current mileage was 2,000. The consumer stated his foot was on the brake, when the vehicle lurched forward. Updated 01/07/13

Cold started vehicle. Waited for fast idle to subside (cool weather). Placed in drive and slowly accelerated into garage, appr 30 feet. Braked vehicle to full stop. Vehicle seemed to be under some level of power, more than idle speed with no acceleration by driver. Began to shift out of drive and once the shift lever was in the neutral slot, the engine rpms increased to about 4000 RPM. Engine was shut down in neutral to avoid shifting into park at high RPM. Second occurrence on 15nov2012, same situation. Contacted local dealer (bb - Chrysler Jeep) (16nov2012 0931), spoke with pm - service consultant who stated that there were no recalls or service bulletins on this vehicle for acceleration type problems. He recommended to bring in for inspection if it happens again.

Yesterday, 5 Jan 12, as I approached a stop light I removed my foot from the gas and applied the brakes. The vehicle did not slow down as expected. It was as if the engine was fighting me. I put the car into neutral and the rpms shot up to about 5000 and then went back down. The cruise control was not engaged and my foot was on the brake, not on the gas. Today, as I was coasting towards an intersection, foot off the gas, I stepped on the brake and again the engine revved up causing me to have to press very hard on the brake to stop. After no more than one or two seconds the problem disappeared. This could easily cause a serious accident.

I was going approximately 20-25 approaching a signal light. I let off the gas and applied the brake as the light was red. As I let off the gas, the engine began to rev higher and as I applied the brake I had to apply it harder and harder as the engine continued to rev even higher. I began to smell the brakes burning as they tried to hold the car back. Fortunately I had the foresight to put the car in neutral. It continued to rev for about 5 seconds and then went down to normal. It has happened once. No warning lights went on. The dealer said that they contacted the detroit technical bureau and they suggested that maybe it was the floor mat, or my foot, etc, etc but claimed they had no other reports of this occurring. I don't have carpets as I opted for the rubber mats and they sit tight to the floor. And my foot was not stuck on the gas. I was conscious of the fact that my foot was on the brake and not the gas as I was trying to figure out what the heck was going on. They said they drove it and did computer checks and had no explanation. The service rep said the response from the technical bureau would be "insulting to me". the dealer was bradshaw Jeep in watertown, ct and the service rep was victor. I wrote this out on the service order and kept a copy.
