CarComplaints.com Notes: On August 16th, 2012 Jeep stopped production of the the Jeep Liberty, marking the end of a troublesome journey for the SUV.

All in all, the 2012 Liberty actually excels off-road, but since 99% of drivers never take this thing off pavement, that becomes somewhat of a moot point. The Liberty suffers from the worst fuel economy in its class (16/22 MPG) and offers an uncomfortable ride with suspect braking ability.

In February 2015 after having routine maintenance performed on my 2012 Jeep Liberty my Air Bag light came on, power locks stopped working, and rear wiper quit working. After diagnosis it was found that the TIPM and OCR modules had failed at the same time. Since the TIPM is not under any recall I am forced to replace this item out of pocket. This is despite the thousands of complaints being generated in reference to the TIPM. I also have a complaint directly referencing the extremely poor treatment and answer I received in regards to the OCR module. Unfortunately, I had to pay for that repair too as they refused to cover the repair. First, you need to know on the 2011 model the OCR will be replaced if faulty for the 2012-2013 models they will only reflash the TIPM. I was told "since the government (NHTSA) did not say they had to replace the OCR module they wouldnt. Regardless of whether its the same problem as the 2011 or not". After doing a lot of probing around I suspect that the damage to the TIPM was directly related to the failure or the recalled OCR. This can be seen in the numerous complaints referencing the 2 failures. I am completely apalled at the attitude and answers provided by Chrysler. Clearly the consumer is of no concern to them. I work for an electronics OEM and we would never take this stance with a consumer if we knew the problem was an engineering mistake. Chrysler has lost an entire family of loyal consumers who have bought their products for over 25 years.

rear wiper wont shut off, and rear gate open warning

When its colder out the rear windshield wiper will not shut off for a few minutes after being activated and the rear gate open indicator is active when the gate is obviously closed. The gate issue causes the cabin lights to stay on until the car warms up. Only happens when its cold, but its annoying.
