The contact owns a 2001 Nissan Maxima equipped with a webasto hollandia 700 aftermarket sunroof. The contact was driving approximately 65 mph when he heard a loud, abnormal banging from the roof of the vehicle. The contact looked into the rear view mirror and noticed that the sun roof had fractured from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and the contact was told that his equipment was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number: 10V421000 (visibility:sun roof assembly). The failure and current mileage was 88,000.

In Feb. 2008, my Maxima 2001, with 55000 miles, stalled out at a stop light--it would start up again but then stalled out when I tried to go. It was towed to the dealership, and the iac valve and the ECM were both replaced for about $1700. Then, on Oct. 20, 2008, 8 months later with the mileage just under 60,000 miles, the same thing happened but it was preceded by a smell of burning rubber. It was towed to the dealership and I was told that the engine harness needed to be replaced ($2000 parts and labor) and the iac valve and the ECM again needed to replaced (another $1700). At first, the dealer said that the iac valve and ECM were covered under the new parts warranty, but then I was told that if it was the engine harness that was responsible for the failure of the iac valve and the ECM, they were not under warranty and I'd have to pay the total bill of $3700! I started a case file with Nissan Consumer Affairs and was told by a regional specialist that Nissan could do nothing for me since the parts were not under warranty. From the internet (and not from the dealership), I learned that the ECM is covered under the epa specified major emission control components warranty for 8 years/80,000 miles but Nissan has declined my claim, saying that the iac valve caused the failure of the ECM that first time in Feb. 2008, so the ECM is not covered by that warranty. There is no language in the epa warranty that states that as an exclusion and there is no language in Nissan's own new parts warranty that states that as an exclusion (I.e., a new part is not covered by the warranty if its failure is caused by another non-warranted part). I have read online many, many similar complaints about the failure of these parts. This seems to be a very dangerous design defect with the potential to cause serious harm. Both times I narrowly avoided accidents. Nissan hasn't been willing to honor the warranties. I have yet to authorize the repairs and I am not sure what to do next.

I believe the right front strut I purchased for my 2001 Nissan Maxima is being incorrectly manufactured by kyb America, llc (subsidiary of kayaba industry companies). Proper installation of the ABS line and the main brake line can not be achieved due to reasons documented in the excerpt of correspondence between myself to kyb America below. This month I have begun to notice some dangerous wearing on my brake line caused by improper manufacturing/installation. Kyb has only responded to my initial form filled out online with a generic auto responder email listing their contact information. The picture I referencebelow is available at the web address: www.astuteinnovations.com/strut.htm the following is from an email I sent on April 15, 2004: "the reasons I think it may be manufactured wrong are shown on the picture, here is the main points. "I can't get the retainer clip for the brake line onto the kyb strut because of a bent lip. The bent lip in the picture is referring to the overall shape of the metal not the rounded top edge. "the rear ABS sensor mount is the same as the Nissan strut but the front sensor mount has a mount that opens facing down. This forces the ABS sensor to take a sharp turn down in order to get to the opening of the kyb mount. I think I mentioned that my ABS light came on but it is now off. This is a safety concern for me even though I'm fairly sure the ABS system is fine. I also had to zip tie the brake line to the kyb mount because of the retainer clip issue & this also scares me because if the zip ties fail then my break line would end up dangling loosely and might get damaged as a result (I check the zip ties every time before I drive the vehicle)." Every 3,000-6,000 miles brake rotors become warped, causing a shaking in the steering while while braking. Nissan, acknowledging a problem with their part, would repair rotors or replace them, but it was only a temporary repair, as they would become warped again after a few thousand miles. Nissan has now refused to repair/replace new rotors that warped only after few thousand miles.
