I have a 2006 maxima which I purchased new in January, 2007. I have less than 70,000 miles on my car. I called Nissan to tell them of the problem, they did return the call and of course they told me that there was nothing they could do because I have exceeded the miles and years. I explained to them that this was my third Nissan and that they have lost me as a customer and I also told them that it was unfair to their customers that they haven't had a recall on their transmissions because they have had so many complaints and that they knew about the problems before hand. And they still told me that there was nothing that they could do. Like so many of us we are stuck with the lemon we purchased from them but I will not buy a NISSAN EVER AGAIN. I PRAY THAT THEY WILL NEVER SELL ANOTHER NISSAN!!!!!!

There's not much else to say that has not been said by others regarding the premature transmission failure. My first car was a brand new 1987 Nissan Sentra and it had a bad manual transmission (warped flywheel) and Nissan refused to fix it even though it was under warranty. The clutch failed prematurely. I swore then I'd never buy another Nissan. Almost 30 years later, I figured I'd give Nissan another shot and here I am swearing I will never buy another Nissan again. I'm not sure how this company has any loyal customers.

I bought this car used and it has been nothing but trouble. The most expensive repair to date has been the transmission. I had it rebuilt just under 100,000 miles. I got it back, and 7,000 miles later the problems started again. The rough shifting, jerking, RPM needle going crazy etc. I am now taking it back for the third time. I have little confidence the problem can really be resolved. Nissan sucks! As I have read all over the internet, Nissan is denying the problem and refusing to fix it. I have owned numerous Toyotas and never experienced any notable problems.

when I first reported it to nissan they told me that my powertrain did not cover the kind of tramsmission in my maxima. There were two different kind of transmissions put in the maxima and the one I have wasn't cover under the warranty, I then ask how would I know which transmission I have. I called corporate office of nissan and they didn't help either. I had took my car to a transmission shop and had the transmission fixed. It cost me $3500 and now I learn most auto repair shop don't want to fix on these maxima. Nissan is a harrible company because they know there's a problem and want stand by their product. I will never ever buy another nissan nor recommend them to anyone even if they were giving they cars away.

Started off about 7-8 months ago, at least, with some hard shifting. We tried babying the car, drove it very little. Then we moved to Texas from Kansas. It made the trip with no issues in December. Still had the hard shifting when we got here. Recently it got much worse. We did the research and knew it was only a matter of time. Finally the other day, it shuttered, it jerked, it popped and my wife said it wouldn't go over 2 MPH at that point. All the gauges started bouncing all over the place and the dash looked like a Christmas tree. We chose to buy a different vehicle. Good news, the shop we bought from wants to buy this car for $1000. Now if I can find that title...

On my way home from work the other day my car began running terrible. As I would excel from a stop light my car would start off fine, but every time my car would try to shift the engine would just rev as if it were in neutral and then jerk real hard as it finally shifted into gear. I could barely get my car to drive over 40 mph. Then as I would hit my breaks to stop at a light or to slow down for a car in front of me my car would downshift just as hard. Only when trying to slow down it seemed a little more dangerous as my car would hold its speed and not react to the breaks being hit like it normally would. I was never in a situation to where it was necessary to stop quickly, but the way my car would try to hold its speed and then down shift real hard it seems like its only a matter of time before something bad could happen. I will be taking it to the shop tomorrow to see what the damage is, but after doing some research it seems as if this is a common problem in the 2006 Nissan Maxima. The guy at Nissan over the phone said to replace the transmission I would be looking at $3k - $4k. My car has 121,000 miles on it, but Nissan has built a reputation of selling dependable cars. I find it hard to believe that their dependability is based on a transmission that barely makes it to 100k miles.

Do not buy a Nissan because they are not trustworthy. I have been holding off on writing this and fixing my transmission because I was waiting for the class action lawsuit to go through since this is a prevalent problem, however the lawsuit failed us. The car starts to jerk after you hit the brakes at low speeds and accelerate after. The jerking gets more violent over time and feels as if you are hit by a car. It is very reproducible in stop and go traffic. It gets worse over time and from what I have been reading it is likely to be the valvebody or solenoid. Do not replace the entire transmission. This is a problem that you would also expect to see in 04 and 05 models.
