CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Nissan Maxima is a good reliable vehicle overall. There's a slight trend of transmission failure just before 100,000 miles, but not widespread enough to be a major concern. Beware of Maximas from 2009-2010, and 2004-2006 though.

The 2009-2010 Maxima has an expensive problem where the steering lock prevents the car from starting, & costs upwards of $1,000 to fix.

Nissan Maximas from 2004-2006 have a widespread transmission defect, but judging from our complaint data, Nissan fixed the transmission problem starting with the 2007 model.

I was driving back from shopping center and stopped at petrol station to get a coffee, which takes me 2 minutes. When I get back to my car, I found that it won't start and the steering was locked. So I made a call to my roadside assistance company and 1 hour later the guy came and looked at the battery and key and asked me take my car to mechanic because car wasn't giving any access, but the key and battery was fine.

The next day I towed my car to my car's service centre and they looked at it after 4 days and asked me to take it to Nissan dealer because car was not letting them diagnose it. Later I towed my car to Nissan dealer and they looked at it on next day, but no update until I called them 2 days later and asked them what had happened to my car. They responded that they didn't find anything because car was not letting them in to find anything, so they gave me the cost of $4500 to order new computer system and steering lock with keys and they said they will replace it and will see if it works, otherwise they will try again.

But I asked them to give me some time to think about it, because its a lot money for my car which is worth $6000. I took some days and watched many video about what could be the issue and find out everyone says it ESCL (Electronic steering column lock). After some days, I got back to them and asked them to if they can only replace that ESCL first. But that lady to whom I told last to take some time to think about it came to me and asked me to take my car away because her manager asked her not to get anything done to my car. Thats what I'm doing after 3 weeks, of all this happening to me and coming back with no fix.
