CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2017 Nissan Sentra has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Sentra owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

Fuel pump failure at 75K miles. Resulted in vehicle sputtering, then stalling, dashboard lights going out and then turning back on with more than half a tank difference in the fuel reading, and then ran out of gas entirely. Brought to dealership who denied there being an open recalls on the vehicle ever, which is incorrect as I've already had to replace the transmission from a recall. The vehicle is completely unstable and is now also having problems holding brake fluid. Can't fill tank at the gas station either because refueling stops immediately every two seconds after turning on even if you physically hold it there... you continue to have to click it back on because the fuel is not accepted by the vehicle. This car should be recalled entirely. It is unsafe and has stranded me 3 times and repairs have been unreasonable. Nissan must take responsibility and issue recalls that will fix the issues free of charge. As of today I've been asked to invest another $3,000 to fix it, but it's worth less than that now.

I purchased a 2014 Nissan Sentra and within 6 months the transmission suddenly went out. It started acting funny on my way out of town to an appt. And within 2 hours exited the interstate and was unable to move off the ramp due to transmission going out. Press the gas pedal and nothing happened no raving or RPM movement nothing. Finally I shut her off for about 5 minutes restarted put her in drive and she jerked and lunged across intersection. She then threw the engine light on for transmission issues. Prior to stopping and lunging not so much as a light had come on. The car acted like it had gotten bad gas a time or two but otherwise no warning or anything prior.

As I was driving or turning, car would hesitate, speed would drop even though foot still on accelerator. Turns out had moisture in driver's brake light which caused car switch to brake thereby causing jerking hesitation. Dangerous because even though car slowed down, brake lights not lit, dangerous to drivers behind me. Light replaced due to seal allowing moisture in.

2014 Nissan Sentra sl 4 door sedan - faulty fuel gauge indicator. The fuel gauge indicator is showing less fuel that is actually in the tank I.e. there is more fuel in the tank than what the gauge indicator showing - and it getting worse. I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs that recommends taking it back to the dealer for repairs. I took it in several times and still it happening I.e. the problem still exist/not corrected. Dealer replace fuel pump but problem still exist/not corrected - and dealers giving various excuses. It is very agonizing emotionally, mentally, sleepless nights, etc. Etc. Thinking that the vehicle will run out of gas and left one stranded. Cannot tell now if the digital or manual gauge reading is correct because both are different. Ps. this gradually started in November 2014. I kept monitoring it and it getting worse, then I decided to call Nissan Consumer Affairs and took it back for repairs on August 31, 2015 - then again, September 3, 2015 - the again November 6, 2015. This is the reason for me to state "the happen date" as August 31, 2015. This is a serious problem that causes over filling and spilling of gas that can cause a fire. I believe there is a malfunction of the Nissan fuel pump and the fuel gauge indicator. I would recommend that the NHTSA speedily investigate this safety matter. After November 6, 2015 - I called and left messages for the Nissan representative that handles my case, but she never contacted me back.

While driving 65 mph with cruise control on, the cruise control cut out and my car started slowing down. I depressed the gas pedal but the car continued to slow down to about 45 mph, then started slowly gaining speed. After work, I drove home without incident. Next day was foggy so not using cruise control. Vehicle slowed down again from 60 mph down to about 45 mph. Also got no response when depressing gas pedal. This time the traction control light on the dashboard came on. Drove home after work without incident. I had gotten the oil changed the day before the first incident happened. I had no previous problems prior to that. The issue seems to have resolved itself as the car is running fine now. If it occurs again, I'll have it checked out.

New 2014 Nissan Sentra, purchased at Nissan dealer, hanlee's hilltop Nissan, in richmond California, in 2014, accelerated out of control on January 8, 2015 causing injury to driver and occupant. The vehicle accelerated on its own and struck into a wall with enough force to cause airbags to deploy. Owner had brought car to dealer, previous to January 8, 2015 to complain about unintended acceleration and was advised by dealer technicians, after test drive, that there was no problem with the vehicle's acceleration. Passenger required hospitalization and suffered broken bones to wrist and vertebrae. Driver, so far, appears to have suffered soft tissue injuries.
