CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005-2007 Xterra appears to have a widespread defect where coolant leaks into the transmission, causing transmission failure around 90,000 miles. Repair costs are typically upwards of $3,500.
The same defect exists in the Pathfinder & Frontier as well. And according to the New York Times & a class action lawsuit, the defect actually extends through 2010 model year. More info here.

Fuel gauge never goes below 1/4 sticks and is inaccurate, same symptoms as recalled vehicles, yet this VIN wasn't include in the recall and should be. Tank runs empty yet still indicates 1/4 full a safety hazard. This vehicle should be included to the recall for the exact same defective parts! updated 02/09/17
Name: [xxx]. vehicle: Nissan Xterra, 2006, VIN [xxx]. fuel tank level gauge was showing erratic reading and was replaced by the dealer with total charges of $377.93 (including labor charges). I am not sure that this gauge is replaced by the modified float arm. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
I have a 2006 Nissan Xterra. At about 55K miles the fuel gauge would read empty at anything under a 1/2 tank of fuel. My service engine soon light stays on constantly, and my tire pressure light stays on as well, even after I've just filled the tires to their required psi. Once I fill my tank, my fuel gauge won't automatically return to full, but will rise after I've been driving.
My 2006 Nissan Xterra's vdc and slip lights keep coming on. After a few key cycles they turn off. Vehicle has only has 2100 miles and this has happened about 8 times. Took it to the dealership and they could not locate any error codes.
Our 2006 Xterra for no reason has dash board lights that will come on and stay on. The od, the vdc and the slip light and the dealer states the computer is not having a hard fault. So with 20,000 miles we have the unknown light issue.
