CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005-2007 Xterra appears to have a widespread defect where coolant leaks into the transmission, causing transmission failure around 90,000 miles. Repair costs are typically upwards of $3,500.
The same defect exists in the Pathfinder & Frontier as well. And according to the New York Times & a class action lawsuit, the defect actually extends through 2010 model year. More info here.
Right at about 2,000 - 2,500 RPMs my Xterra makes a rattling noise. I have been researching on the internet and see people saying it could be the VIAS, timing chain, or the heat shield. I honestly have no idea what it is or how to fix it.
It's making a similar noise to this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKRTe7A7Kc4. I wish the problems with this thing would just end already... The sound is awful and I feel like if I continue to drive it like this I am going to cause some damage.
Just bought this truck. Belts make loud shrieking noise. will have dealer look at it hopefully just needs adjustment.....I put belt dressing spray on it and it definately got louder
Update from Jul 9, 2010: New belt....$18 at napa...Took me about 5 to 10 minutes to change
