When I took my Xterra back to the dealership of purchase, I was told this was normal noise for a Nissan engine. Contacted Nissan Customer Concerns and was told to get a second or even third opinion from other dealerships. Second dealership laughed at the first dealership report and in the end replaced the long block (entire engine). They believed this was a rocker arm and other internal failures. The second dealership is now my new place for all work. Corporate Nissan was contacted to know the result and disappointment with the initial dealership. This was the only failure of this type that I could find with this engine so far. Noise started at 37k and replacement was at 47k (1yr and 10 months from purchase).
