CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.

Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.

Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal” amount of oil.

Kumho tire. Left front wheel. The tread separated and the treaded part broke causing extensive damage to the left fender, fender lining, left body panel below both doors, the front bumper, the left headlight electrical system and possibly other front end damage. Driver did not hit anything on the freeway and was able to come to a safe stop without hitting anything else. This, and the other three tires on the car were purchased from discount tire on 08/04/2010, and they only have about 41,000 miles on them.

Water leaking in the headliner, causing the foot wells to be wet. The drain line from the moon roof "gutter" disconnected from the drain line pan and water drains and accumulates in the foot well. During cold weather conditions there is an extreme condensation built-up on the interior of windows. Use of heater will generate high humidity in the cabin and fogging of the window. The fluid in the cabin along with the heating and cooling at night has created a problem cycle.

Vehicle started from parked condition. As operator tapped the gas pedal lightly to take it out of parked condition, the vehicle suddenly had a very high speed causing loss of control and the vehicle hit a house. Apparently it caused a open throttle condition. Pressing brake only aggravated the condition (adding more speed). This happened with an experienced driver with over 10 years of driving record and 0 incident (not even a parking ticket). All earlier recall were done by dealer.

I own a Toyota Camry 2007 and the dashboard is melting and has created shiny dashboard. I have cleaned with plain water/damp cloth but it is not getting better. I have a friend who also owns Camry 2007 and is facing same problem. I have maintained my car very well and this is surely manufacturing defect. On December 1st this year and I met with an accident because of melting dashboard and shiny dashboard that created glare in my eyes. Thank god, no one was injured. I have also read online that many people who own Toyota Camry 2007 are facing same problem.

Dashboard is melting, soft, and sticky to touch. Due to the fact that it is melting, it has become very shiny and bright. The shiny melting dashboard creates a large bright reflection in the windshield that can't be looked at or through. This issue impairs the drivers view of the road ahead.

The driver's side sun visor broke. The arm that goes into the sun visor came out of the sun visor. It seems that it broke the plastic inside the visor that holds it in place. This caused the visor to keep falling and not stay in place. It created a hazard so I completely removed the visor. The tab on the bar that allows the visor to snap into place has become very stiff to where it is very difficult to rotate around. The stiffness of the arm seems to be what probably broke the plastic.

The sun visor for some time has been clicking when moved down or up. This Monday it finally broke for good. It no longer stays up out of the drivers view and is not able to be adjusted as normal. I have noticed on several discussion groups that this is a very common occurrence. I believe that Toyota has know that this is a week part and should initiate a recall to replace or reimburse the cost of replacement.
