CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.
Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.
Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal†amount of oil.
There is no complaint about the car, just have to add oil constantly. Never had a car that I had to check the oil so frequently, like every week. Best car I ever owned but putting oil in constantly suck. Buying a new car is too expensive on my budget. I read that Toyota put faulty pistons in a lot of cars not just mine. Can Toyota repair this engine at a reasonable price.
I started noticing shortly before the car reached the 100k mark that the red oil light would blink when I pressed the brake to stop. I told the local dealer and they alerted me that I would have to go through an oil consumption test. The first two tests, the car passed the test and the oil that was burning off was not to the desired amount to be fixed. After going through multiple oil consumption tests at the dealership, the test finally failed and I was told that my car was out of warranty by the years. It was originally purchased in 2006 by another owner and because it was 2017, toyota was not liable to fix the problem they knew and still know exists in this engine type. I am now having to basically fill the engine with oil up to 3 quarts in between my oil changes. I am disgusted at the lack of customer service to rectify this factory defect.
Our main complaint is the engine burning oil. Minimal leaking on the ground. Overall it has been a great car, but this problem is annoying. We are adding oil all the time.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION SHORTENS THE CAR LIFE AND MAKES IT MUCH LESS VALUABLE TO RE-SELL IF ONE IS HONEST IN THE PROCESS WHICH IS HOW IT SHOULD BE. MY ESTIMATE IS THIS COSTS ME ABOUT $3500 IN LOST VALUE PLUS I NEED TO CHECK THE OIL EVERY 2-3 WEEKS AND TOP OFF AS NEEDED.

Called the dealer the car only have 112k miles now and they stated that I am out of warranty and that I will have to pay $2500 for repairs. They stated that the warranty is 150k of ten years really.
In Oct. I took my car in to get an oil change because my oil bell kept coming on as I turned sharp corners and they told me there was NO oil left in there. I was shocked as I always take care of my car. I decided to check my car's oil the next couple of weeks and sure enough there was NO oil in there again..I thought I had an oil leak but there was no signs of that in the engine or on my driveway. I know now after talking with other camry owners that there was a problem with the oil consumption and engine..I Just want my car fixed!!!
For many years I've had to keep putting in more oil than usual. Just recently, I put 2 quarts of oil in my car and within a week, it was low again. My brother said that is not normal and need to find out why. I checked to see if I have any leaking around where I park every night, and NO I have no leak or stain marks of oil on the pavement. My mechanic also noticed the problem of having too low of oil every time I brought it in to them.
My brother then found this problem with these cars (2007 - 2011 Toyota Camrys) on the internet. I have a 2007 Toyota, Camry. I'm so frustrated and it's been quite costly to keep having to put oil in my car so often, which is NOT normal.
I can provide my care VIN # once I get to it in the morning.
I would like some advise, possible recall or possible courtesy oil service through Toyota or any organization that may be able to help.

My 2007 Camry started burning oil excessively. I check my oil every few weeks and the oil was going below the minimum mark every time I checked. Took it to Toyota and they said it is not a problem and will not be covered under warranty.
Camry has always been a good car. I have just recently replaced radiator on it at 141,000 miles. Battery was also original up until last month. It's been a good car and i am planning on driving it into the ground. I'm that kind of person, don't mind some work (what i can/know) and want my vehicle to be paid off. With the oil consumption issue, it's becoming a bit too expensive to own. I am using fairly ok oil for it and did not want to go cheap to possibly hurt it more.
I was never advised on the warranty extent ion regarding this problem. This all seemed to be done so quietly. Not fair, Toyota. Yes, I could have done research and would have likely found it so that's my fault also. Once I found out about the warranty extension to local Toyota dealer at Syracuse NY Burdick, they advised the warranty is no longer valid and refused to do anything.
Is it too late to do anything about this? Any input is appreciated.
I am writing this for my grandparents. Before 2000 they never owned a foreign car. They now own 3 and have owned a couple others since then. Up until this point they have been very happy. My grandfather put 250,000 miles on their Toyota Matrix without any problems. Now he Is going to trade in their 2007 Camry because it burns a quart of oil every 1000 miles. My grandparents keep cars until the wheels fall off, but this problem is too costly. It’s obvious that this is a manufacturing flaw based on the number of complaints I have read online. I had a similar problem on my 2010 Honda Accord and after having the dealer monitor the oil consumption we got the problem resolved free of charge. If Toyota has acknowledged the problem is abnormal they need to step up to the plate and pay for the repairs. I will be thinking twice before buying a Toyota from now on. I’ll stick with Honda.
We bought the car certified pre-owned around March of 2011 from Delray Beach Toyota. The problem started fairly quickly and we just now found out there was a Toyota recall for the burning oil. We never received the notice since we were not original owners. We must weekly add oil, since it burns it down regularly. What can we now do to take advantage of that recall? How do I find out if it has expired?
Took my Camry to Puente Hills Toyota back in October of 2011 when i received the technical service bulletin (TSB) from Toyota. The dealership told me to come back around 1000 miles but I returned it around 1200 miles and they told me that I failed to bring back my car within the required miles. They performed another oil consumption test which I returned the vehicle near the 1000 miles and was told that my vehicle passed the oil consumption test and no replace of parts or repair was need. I still experience oil consumption burn and have to add a quart of new oil past every 1200 miles of comute driving on both street and freeway.
Called the dealer that sold the vehicle to me 1 year ago, and when I asked why they did not know about this common problem in this year and make of vehicle, they told me to call Toyota. I asked if they were in the habit of over charging and selling bad vehicles and the service rep. hung up the phone on me.
Vehicle burns excessive oil and car was filled with oil on 10/19/2017 on 10/21/2017 while driving the vehicle the engine began to knock extremely loud. Pulled the car over to check under the hood and the oil dip stick was completely bone dry not a drop of oil on the ground but the oil seems to have vanished from the vehicle. Now the engine is shot and needs to be completely replaced. Toyota has not issued a recall for this problem and I have seen multiple individuals with the same scenario.
Panama city Toyota told me to my face that my car was burning oil. There was a recall about it but they refused to apply the recall on my car. My car is clearly burning oil. I have 2000 miles to go until I change oil again but I barely have oil in my engine.
My 2007 Camry has bad pistons and piston rings which are causing the 4 cylinder engine to burn oil at an ever increasing amount. Currently it is consuming 1 quart every 1,200 miles and is getting worse!! Toyota issues a Technical Service Bulletin (T-SB-0158-14) for a really lame process to monitor and reject this issue as normal!! The way Toyota is handling this is a joke. I consider this a safety issue along with the loss of value to my vehicle.
About half way through the oil change period, my engine oil light comes on. I have brought the car in to the mechanic and have been told that there is no oil in the oil pan. I put in a few more quarts and move on my way. Now I buy multiple quarts of oil and put them in periodically. As of right now this is simply annoying. I am worried that this will turn into a major problem later.
