CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.

Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.

Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal” amount of oil.

Actually I do not recall when it became apparent. Just lately while having recall work for another problem, I mentioned it to the dealers rep. He said since the milage and time is past 3yrs and 36000 miles, it is not covered. I feel there should have been a recall. The car is 2007 with 102000 miles.

I have been looking for another car with the rusted wheels. It is noticable to me and annoying and that's all I care about. I was told Toyota would not take care of it and that it was due to the weather. I live in AZ. So much for the bumper to bumper warranty I purchased. Not happy. Not happy at all.

I complained to the dealer about the rust and was told I could repaint them. There was nothing they could do or were responsible for. I wash my own car about as much as it is taken to the car wash. It appears inferior steel was used or poor paint on the wheels. I think Toyota should offer to do something about it as it does not reflect well on Toyota.

wheels rusting

It was totally unexpected to see 2007 Camry (less than 4 years old) wheel rims getting rusted so early in the game. I have 13 year old Honda Accord still doing OK. My car is used for office commute on paved roads and both cars go to same car wash.

I have also got the noisy brake recall done twice on 2007 Camry in addition to the recent gas pedal recall.

I think Toyota is over rated. My expectation was for them to produce better quality with all the experience they have but it seems that they are going in the wrong direction.

Also, their customer service is deaf. They don't want to listen to their customers.

MY 2007 CAMRY HAS RUSTING WHEELS. THEY CLAIM IT'S NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. TOYOTA, I AM SO SO DISSAPOINTED! I TOOK OFF MY HUB CAPS TO STOP THE STAINING. WHAT A NIGHTMARE!

My wheels rusted very badly and we took it to the Toyota dealer we purchased it from. the car was just over a year old. They stated that it was what we were washing it with. I take my car to the car wash and the same ones that go there every Sunday when I go do not have rusted wheels from the car being washed! They would not replace or offer any suggestions as to how to get the rust off. Anyone have any suggestions?
