CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Camry used to be adorned with our “Seal of Pretty Good” but that was before an alarming number of complaints started rolling in for excessive oil consumption.

Owners are being caught off-guard with how quickly their cars are running out of oil. No leaks, no spills, just 1 quart of vanishing oil in as little as 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains this is “normal” for the 2AZ-FE engine, even though they issued a TSB for the problem in August of 2011.

I bought the most expensive 2009 Toyota Camry Sports Edition available at that time with leather interior, navigational system, Bluetooth, etc. Not long after purchasing the vehicle, I noted the gold pinstriping on the car's black body was beginning to fray at the outermost edges. It really got bad in a heavy rainstorm on my way from Austin to Corpus Christi. When I got through the storm, some of the pinstripping had actually come loose from the body of the car and torn away, resulting in uneven pinstripping. This is a recurring problem in a rainstorm or when I get the vehicle washed. The local dealership I bought the Camry from stated it would fix the problem when the weather got warmer (I reported the problem in late fall 2010), but I still have my doubts it will occur.
