CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Camry used to be adorned with our “Seal of Pretty Good” but that was before an alarming number of complaints started rolling in for excessive oil consumption.

Owners are being caught off-guard with how quickly their cars are running out of oil. No leaks, no spills, just 1 quart of vanishing oil in as little as 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains this is “normal” for the 2AZ-FE engine, even though they issued a TSB for the problem in August of 2011.

I have a 2009 Camry SE with a sun roof. The car makes a loud popping noise when you drive over a bump or turn out of a drive or parking lot on an incline. At first it only did this occasionally. Now it does it almost continuously when you are driving on a rough road. It is very annoying. I hope the thing doesn't crack right down the middle of the car some day.

Camry Sports Edition V6

To begin, the problem I describe has happened more than once. When I bought my 2009 Toyota Camry (with 500 miles on it), some idiot had dented the back fender, which was "discovered" and pointed out to me when I was doing the financing. I thought, "Well, the dealership will replace the bumper. No problem." Big mistake. I should have walked away from that ill-fated dealership right then. As it turns out, over the course of almost two years, whenever I go over a bump or an incline, the top of my car's roof makes a strange "popping" noise as if the aluminum/metal/steel has been damaged in some way and is buckling or tending to right itself. I tend to think the constant buckling sound must be related to when the idiot test driver backed into a pole. The problem used to happen only now and then, but now I hear the popping noise several times a day, chiefly when pulling into or out of my steep driveway. For all the money I put down on this car in addition to the expensive financing, it makes me stop to ask why I ever would consider buying a new car again. I wonder if anyone else has had this happen with their Camry, or if this annoying popping noise is a result of when the fender was dented.
