CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Camry used to be adorned with our “Seal of Pretty Good†but that was before an alarming number of complaints started rolling in for excessive oil consumption.
Owners are being caught off-guard with how quickly their cars are running out of oil. No leaks, no spills, just 1 quart of vanishing oil in as little as 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains this is “normal†for the 2AZ-FE engine, even though they issued a TSB for the problem in August of 2011.

My 2009 Camry with 26,000 miles was parked in my driveway for several hours, when it spontaneously burst into flame. There had been no indication of any problem during driving--no noises, smells or unusual sounds. If the car had been parked in my garage my house would have burned down, because it was approaching midnight and I was ready for bed when the fire department banged on my door. This 2009 Camry was a recall vehicle and it had been serviced by Maplewood (MN) Toyota, but obviously the "fix" was deficient to correct the underlying problem with this model and the vehicle remained a ticking time bomb.
The New Brighton MN fire department put out the fire. The vehicle partially melted onto my driveway, damaging the driveway. There were noxious fumes emanating from the wreckage. The car was rendered a hunk of junk.
I contacted Toyota, and sent them photographic evidence, and their response has been--NO RESPONSE!
