CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Camry used to be adorned with our “Seal of Pretty Good” but that was before an alarming number of complaints started rolling in for excessive oil consumption.

Owners are being caught off-guard with how quickly their cars are running out of oil. No leaks, no spills, just 1 quart of vanishing oil in as little as 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains this is “normal” for the 2AZ-FE engine, even though they issued a TSB for the problem in August of 2011.

irregular shift timing

Having multiple problems with my Toyota Camry 2009 with 68k miles. The major issue is is is transmission problem which jerks when I accelerate. It suddenly stopped going in reverse when I accelerates. It was dangerous and I’m scared lucky I was in parking area when I had this issue. I spent lot of money on the this car and now again 3000 dollars for transmission rebuild. This is worst experience with this car. I don’t to how claim this amount with Toyota. Whether recall or reimbursement money for this repair.

Camry LE 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission

since the 09 Camry was purchased it down shifted very rough at times from 50km down wards, driving in a congested downtown rush hour stop and go scenario it feels like the transmission is going to fall ou of the car,the answer from the dealer "it is super electronically controlled and it searches for the gears" the answer came from the service manager who claimed her Toyota rav 4 doe's the same thing "jumps like a rabbit" I have to give the service managers credit, they are very creative with the story telling.Of course just like my 3.4 liter oil consumption every 8000km the transmission problem is being ignored by Toyota and a refusal to fix any issues as being ok according to their manual.First Toyota and the last, ignorance at it best !!!

Camry LE 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 6,000 miles

The automatic transmission shifts erratically. There are times when the transmission refuses to shift to an upper gear and thus will over rev for the current driving conditions.
