CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Camry used to be adorned with our “Seal of Pretty Good” but that was before an alarming number of complaints started rolling in for excessive oil consumption.

Owners are being caught off-guard with how quickly their cars are running out of oil. No leaks, no spills, just 1 quart of vanishing oil in as little as 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains this is “normal” for the 2AZ-FE engine, even though they issued a TSB for the problem in August of 2011.

Camry LE V6

i just got this car right before new years as a gift from my parents for christmas. 6 months later, transmission started acting up. gears were downshifting at random when throttling and even when braking gently. 2nd gear to first gear lagged and down shifted late causing me to jerk forward a bit. gas on pedal caused rps to jump up, yet next gear was not engaged causing rpms to shot up wthout changing gears. skipping stopped after i parked with the E brake. after that, reverse started to not work. i took it to toyota dealership, they said its the start of the wear and tear on transmission. WTF? i bought it 6 monthes ago. how the heck could it be transmision issues? i just got this car? they sold me a lemon and i was past the 6 months. i could do anything about it, $20,000 in debt, and i cant even drive my car. THANKS TOYOTA YOU PIECE OF SHIP.transmission f*cks up after heavy braking. uphill braking also f*cks up. some please sue toyota and spread the love. make them pay for this and put in a recall. changed transmission oil. changed engine oil. same sh*t. toyota said all they could do is re teach the transmission to shift. which is stupid cuz i got this car from them and they are not fixing the issue? the transmission has a lot more problems behind it than i think.

Camry LE 6 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 57,166 miles

I was driving to a friends house two blocks from my house, came to a stoplight, stop, was about to make a right turn, I pressed the gas pedal and the car refused to move. I turned off the engine three times and start the car again and had the same response. I called my mechanic who service my car on a regular basis and told him the problem. He asked me if I saw an orange light showing up and I told him yes, then he said it appeared to be a transmission problem. I got the car towed to my mechanic's garage and he later confirmed it was indeed the transmission that was damaged. I was livid and said this is a 2009 Toyota Camry with just over 90 odd thousand kilometers I should not have this problem. I was so embarrassed because a car has never broke done on the road with me before plus I was battling with health problems.

I called a toyota car dealer the next day and spoke to them about the problem with my transmission. I was told the warranty was up and there was nothing they could do for me their hand was tied.

Camry LE 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 137,588 miles

THIS VEHICLE IS FULLY SERVICED BY TOYOTA DEALER.

WENT FOR OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. DEALER CHECKED EVERYTHING AND RECOMMENDED TO CHANGE THE BATTERY AND POWER STEERING FLUID AFTER MULTI POINT INSPECTION.I TOLD HIM THAT I WILL DO THIS WORK ON THE NEXT OIL CHANGE. DROVE OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP AND DROVE APPROX. 2 MILES AND CAR STARTED GIVING TROUBLE IN DRIVING. CALLED DEALER FROM CELL TO CHECK ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.

HE ASKED TO DRIVE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. DROVE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP .DEALER DID DIAGNOSTICS TEST FOR APPROX 40 MINS AND INFORMED THAT TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I DROVE APPROX 6.5 MILES AFTER LEAVING DEALERSHIP AND COMING BACK TO THE WORKSHOP.

HAVE ALL THE RECORDS AS THE DEALERSHIP NEVER MENTIONED ANY TROUBLE FOR TRANSMISSION. THIS CAR HAS HIGHWAY MILES . TECHNICIAN SAYS THIS IS VERY RARE BUT THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING.

HAVE TO $99.00 TO GET IT TOWED TO MY LOCATION.
