Car was CA recall, been at dealer 21/2 months ago, no passenger airbag until spring. The local dealer claims will be ready soon but hotline says April 2017 as does vin check. They are not dealing with airbag replacement, Car can't be sold, not driving 1 passenger doesn't work. Given loaner but 6 mos is out of control for any repair. Never believe what they tell you.

Dealer charged $89.95 for diagnosis (PO codes 1801 open squib. needs spiral cable.) and gave estimate of an additional $322 to finish the repair. I deferred the repair to research the issue as I was just a few hundred miles out of warranty and was real unhappy at the time.

Matrix 2.3L/4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 103,825 miles

The symbol for an air bag deployment failure stays on all the time. I am told by the mechanic at the Toyota dealership the price of the part is low, but the labor is over $300.00 I get hassled at state inspection time to have it fixed, even though it is not required by state inspection. (now I just put black electrical tape over symbol at inspection stations).

Matrix S 2.4L

  • Manual transmission
  • 60,000 miles

I got rid of a VW because I was always fixing it and I thought Toyota was better than this- all the recalls- etc.If I wanted a car to fall apart at 60k I would buy another CHRYSLER!! I thought passive restraints were covered past the warranty.
