This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
We have experienced transmission problems starting in 12/98. At this time, our truck was still under warranty, and we mentioned that the transmission was slipping when our truck was serviced at wilton motors. The mechanics insisted it was fine. In fact, we are not even sure if they checked since our service invoice indicates that checking the transmission was a "deleted operation". on 2/25/00, the transmission failed while driving on the highway. It was constantly slipping and could not handle highway speeds (the truck was having trouble shifting gears and made a grinding noise). We brought the truck into an independent specialist on 3/2/00. The entire transmission needed to be rebuilt and several bands were replaced. The entire repair cost $1,800. We were not satisfied with the service at the GM dealership, and were concerned that they would now find a problem with the transmission and charge an even higher amount than an independent specialist. At this point, our truck was no longer under warranty. However, we felt the problem had developed while the truck was still covered under warranty, and the GM mechanics failed to find the problem. We have filed a complaint with General Motors on 4/12, a complaint with the better business bureau on 6/12, and are now filing a complaint with NHTSA. We have spoken with other owners of 1995 and 1996 Blazer, and many have complained of transmission problems. We are hoping that GM realizes there is a problem with this part and will investigate other complaints on the transmission. We have already had 5 recalls for our 1996 Blazer, and we are hoping there will be a recall for the transmission.
Erratic performance of ABS has caused consumer to downshift in order to stop vehicle which in time, has affected transmission. Transmisson needed to be replaced. It took 45 days for the vehicle to be repaired, and the consumer had to pay for most of the costly repairs. Consumer wants to be reimbursed.
While driving home from the airport I noticed the sos light was illuminated, I stoped the Blazer and checked the oil level it was okay. Upon starting and when the transmission shifted to 2nd gear it slammed on the shift. After taking it to the dealer, they told me thar I would have to have it rebuilt. I asked the mechanic that serviced the truck what failed he told me that water was found in the transmission and that rust was the problem, after asking him how it got there he told me that GMC was having problems with the transmission dip stick tube and that they were leaking water to the transmission, and a service bulletin # 99-07-30-004 was out on the truck and if they did not do the work asap that this is what hade caused many failures. Repair cost is $1400.
Was driving vehicle when it took off. Gears had changed, but later failed to work. Vehicle started to slow down. Was making a whinning noise. Took vehicle to mechanic & was informed that transmission went out & would check for the cause.
I have had two major problems with this vehicle since it's purchase date. The transmission has experienced two major failures and the dealer said he replaced them both times. I have continued to experience shifting problems and occassional lockup of the transmission when shifting from park to drive. The transmission dip stick and filler tube have had to be replaced twice for rust which leads me to believe that engine cooolant is getting into the transmission fluid. The second problem is naturally the ABS brake system. This is the sorriest excuse for brakes on a vehicle that I have seen. I must almost stand on the brake pedal with excessive pressure to get the vehicle to stop. I also experienced premature brake pad wear out on the front which damage the rotors. Chevrolet refused to fix this under warranty even though the vehicle only had 20,000 miles on it. The ABS system locks up sometimes when I push hard on the brakes. I have experienced several near accidents because of the poor braking system on this vehicle. I would appreciate any help you could be to leverage Chevrolet to correct these problems.
