CarComplaints.com Notes: What’s that smell – it’s a tad sweet with a tinge of chemical toxicity? If you own a 2011 Cruze it’s probably a coolant leak. It’s a widespread and notorious problem for the car and is the subject of a class-action lawsuit filed in the state of New York. And that’s not the only problem 2011 owners face…

Many say the 2011 model year suffers from a throttle lag that is probably due to a fauly electronic throttle control. The problem is signifigant enough that some owners say they are too scared to drive their cars. Those that do get behind the wheel often say their transmission isn’t shifting properly and problems start occuring as early as 15,000 miles.

All of this leads us to say you’re probably better off without this car’s headaches (they’re probably chemically-induced anyway).

Cruze LT 1.4L Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

I bought my Cruze 5/2012. I moved to FL for 8 months from PA in October and I have had nothing but issues. When we moved back to PA from FL we had to flat bed my car because I was afraid to drive it over 1,000 miles. My water pump went after I had it looked at a month before and was told there was no issue. I had a issue with my turbo and they had my car for over a week to fix it. My car shifts horribly. It feels like my transmission is going to drop out of my car. If I sit on the brake for a minute or two at a red light and go to hit the gas my car shudders like it is going to stall out. I had the service manager from the dealership I bought the car from feel this issue happen twice in several minutes and he told me there was nothing than can do. I pay way to much money a month for a car that drives like sh*t. My car shifts hard, and my entire car rocks, from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd and I am told that its "normal". I might be a female and have little knowledge on cars but I am not dumb and it is not normal. I WANT MY CAR FIXED!!! Now I am part of this recall on the brake system, when the recall came out months ago I called to find out if I was part of it and I was told NO!! October I went to have my car looked at again and found out that I am part of the recall. My engine sounds like its going to blow up and is full of rattling noises and squeals. Its a 2011, I take care of my car. I get my oil changed and my fluids looked at and my car serviced. This is crap. Now I am in the middle of a Lemon Law, lawsuit hoping and praying that something will be done.

Cruze LT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,500 miles

I took the car to my dealer and every time I stated that there was something wrong with the transmission. And the last time I was told that after driving my car for 12,000 miles that I just didn't know it yet. Being a female doesn't make me stupid on how a car is suppose to drive!

Cruze LS 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,000 miles

Car does not coast properly when foot taken off throttle. Car immediately slows down and has notable trans down shifts

Update from Sep 18, 2011: I did want to clarify my complaint. WHEN THE THROTTLE IS PRESSED THE CAR DOES NOT IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATE, THIS IS BAD IF YOU ARE CROSSING TRAFFIC.

When I went to the dealership and they drove a 2012 to see if another 1.8 had same issue, it was actually worse. Some people seem to we are experiencing turbo lag (no turbo). It is throttle lag, I think it is a safety issue. I took this to GM support, they investigated and determined it was normal operation. Unfortunately this is why foreign auto makers have gotten such large shares. I am a Chevy guy and this car has truly disappointed me. My other car a 2004 Malibu V6 has 100k and I love it, best I car ever had. I don't know what we can do, no one seems to deny there is a problem, it's just this problem is normal operation. Complete BS. Let me if you get any where. I posted this to get some awareness, this is a serious problem, I know there are others.

Cruze

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49 miles

I just got the 2011 Chevy Cruze two weeks ago. When I test drove, I didn't notice anything. My car lags every few minutes when driving. I took the car in for servicing and they said it's a new technology that GM put in to save gas (I think they're lying). The problem has gotten worse. The drive is not smooth at all. For a brand new car, I'm very disappointed. The dealership is being a jerk too, ignoring our ph calls. Not sure what to do -- I'm stuck in a 3 year lease with this stupid car! It only looks good on the outside so don't be fooled!
