CarComplaints.com Notes: What’s that smell – it’s a tad sweet with a tinge of chemical toxicity? If you own a 2011 Cruze it’s probably a coolant leak. It’s a widespread and notorious problem for the car and is the subject of a class-action lawsuit filed in the state of New York. And that’s not the only problem 2011 owners face…

Many say the 2011 model year suffers from a throttle lag that is probably due to a fauly electronic throttle control. The problem is signifigant enough that some owners say they are too scared to drive their cars. Those that do get behind the wheel often say their transmission isn’t shifting properly and problems start occuring as early as 15,000 miles.

All of this leads us to say you’re probably better off without this car’s headaches (they’re probably chemically-induced anyway).

Cruze LT 2.4L

After coming from a defective 2012 Ford Focus (car in the shop 6 times in 1 year) I THOUGHT I would buy something that would be reliable, unfortunately my Cruze is just as bad if not worse then the Focus. Now I'm stuck in a car that is not worth a damn dime and I feel unsafe, yet again, everytime I drive out my driveway. Thanks Ford and Chevy for the disappointments.

Cruze ECO 1.6L

  • Manual transmission

In November of 2011 had the dealership I bought the car from look at it. No explanation when I picked up the car. Continued to drive the car and figured it was normal. Then in summer of 2013 I took it to a different Chevy Dealer, Fox, in the nearby town of Negaunee, MI. When I went to pick up the vehicle they had failed to do the oil change I requested and was not told much about the "fix" if any. It seemed that the issue was not addressed by them while they had the car. Feeling frustrated again from now a different dealer.

In mid December of 2013 I flew to Kentucky for my work and rented a Chevy Cruze. Guess what, much less wind noise. Following my return home I scheduled my Cruze in on12-27-13 with the original dealer, Frei Chevy of Marquette where I bought the vehicle. This time my service paperwork showed they adjusted the driver's door. At first the wind noise I thought sounded better but it is continuing to be annoying, worse when it is a windy day. Sounds like it is coming from the upper rear area of the driver's window. Dropped the Cruze off at the dealership tonight so they can look at another problem tomorrow, the trunk opener switch at the outside rear of the vehicle above the license plate has stopped working. Key Bob works but not the manual switch. I also asked them to look at the wind noise again. If they can't fix it I'm thinking of selling it. Feeling frustrated.

2-10-14 Frei Chevy Service Rep called and they have ordered a new window seal kit. Will call when it arrives and I'll make an appointment. Rep said he could see where it wasn't sealing good. Feeling optimistic.
