Car randomly doesn't start. When I first got the car(6 mos ago) I replaced the starter having no idea that this has been happening over and over again to many Impala owners if not all of them. Started fine for 2 weeks and it's been happening ever since. Sometimes when the car doesn't start it trips the passlock and I have to wait anywhere from 10 to 30mins before it resets in order to try starting again. I've been driving the car and at quick stops I have to leave it running to be sure I won't get stuck there for 30 mins or so. I've also been stuck at gas stations waiting 10 to 30 mins(at the pump) for it to start again (very embarrassing). After all the complaints I've read I'm afraid to spend anymore money on this problem.

Engine shuts down for no apparent reason. Almost like someone turned the ignition switch off. I purchased this 2000 chev. Impala ls in May 2005. On May 30, the engine coughed once but continued running smoothly, so I didn't consider it a problem. Then June 29 it coughed again but continued running smoothly. That evening on the way home from work with no warning, the engine just quit running. After it sat on the side of the road for a few minutes, I was able to start it and continue on my drive home. Since then, between July 5 and August 10, the engine shut down 7 times. 3 of those were on August 10. Each time, after a few minutes, I was able to restart it. I took it to a dealer for repair(power Chevrolet, irvine, ca),on August 12, after a short diagnosis, the complaint was signed off as" road test 5 miles unable to duplicate customer concern. Throttle body dirty, cleaned throttle body" since there had been a recall on a fuel pressure regulator the service rep. Had it replaced. I didn't receive the old regulator, but it didn't cure the problem of the engine shutting down for no apparent reason, because on August 22 it did it again (twice). Someone at GM needs to determine the cause of this problem and inform the service personnel of the fix. An inexperienced driver could be in real trouble if this happened.

The horn was inoperative. The consumer tried numerous times to activate the horn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the consumer that the computer sensor needed to be replaced. The air bag sensor failed which caused the horn to be inoperative. The lock cylinder had to be replaced because the consumer was unable to start the vehicle.

The car hesitates when pulling out especially after it has set for an hour after it was parked for that length of time. It has a miss at times. This does not happen on a regular basis. The dealer has been advised of this problem 5 times now. They had the car for 3 weeks and stated they could not find anything wrong. The car has a miss when accelerating, also when pulling out the gas pedal is pushed down and the car will not go immediatly and then takes off. As stated we never know when this will occur. It just happened again on 1/17/01 pulling out of my mother's driveway. I stepped on the gas and the car hesitated as I pulled out into the roadway and it failed to go right away. This is a dangerous situation.

Car was idling in "park" when incident occurred. Dealer's work order states "excessive current load from fuel pump burned wire terminal at ignition block. Repaired burned wire terminal and replaced fuel pump". since fuel pump is located in gas tank, any electrical failure of this part could cause a major fire.
