It has taken me a long time to find this video on youtube. I had gone with this problem for over a year before I found the solution. There is also a button behind the rubber guard that is on the steering column directly behind the ignition. It is more of a solenoid rather than a button. When the wire is detached in the shifter wiring then the button with be left open causing the key to think the car isn't in park. The video attached solves 2 seperate issues yet it is the solution for this problem.

Impala LS 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 77,000 miles

Going thru process that started with new battery as solution that did not correct the problem and now I'm presented with option of $300-$400 "solution" to replace the shift lock solenoid. Do not have that money! Any suggestions will be greaty appreciated.

love the car and love to drive it but HATE the electrical problems!!! On 7 separate occasions, when I put the car in park to turn it off and take out the key, as soon as I would go to turn the key off, the ignition would get totally locked up and hung on the mode called accessories which means the radio, dash lights, head lights, and anything else electrical on the car would not shut off and the key would absolutely NOT turn to the off position! This is the stupidest and most annoying problem I have ever dealt with and the ONLY way to get the lights and all the accessories to go off and keep from draining my battery was to pop the hood and totally disconnect the battery to keep from having a dead car the next morning, then in the morning I would have to pop the hood and re-connect the battery before the car could be driven... WHAT A PAIN IN MY ASS! still love my car now that it is FINALLY fixed... I HOPE!!!!
