I've had my chevy impala for 8yrs. I bought it used with 32,000miles on it. Recently the low oil pressure light came on and said stop the engine, so I did and check the oil and everything was ok, it did it again later that evening again. i stopped the engine and checked the oil and everything was ok again. I was due an oil change so i got the oil changed and it didn't happen again for two days. I ignored the problem since i new i had plenty of oil and it was just changed, it didn't happen again for a week and then the alarm went off again for low oil pressure again. i checked my oil and again everything was alright again!! I had talked with a couple of mechanic buddies and they said the sensor was probably going out and to check and see if there was any recalls for this problem. apparently there should be since I am not the only one having this problem.

Impala LT 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

Bought my '06 Impala for an upgrade from my aging Ford Taurus because I heard how great the new model Impalas were (despite them being everywhere around where I live). Sadly, I've had nothing but problems with this car.

For THIS complaint only is about the low oil pressure. About a month after purchasing it used at only 78k I get a message on the highway stating "Low oil pressure. Stop engine" which with good reason scared the hell out of me. I pulled over and check the oil levels, which were all fine. I noticed no leaks so I figured it was okay to start driving again. For about a few miles everything was okay, but then the dashboard lit up again with the same message, sometimes sporadically showing up off and on for a few seconds, which gets very annoying as there is an audible alarm that goes off as well.

A little research and I soon find out that this car has a big problem with there oil pressure sensor going bad. The seals go bad and it starts to give false reads, which in turn causes that message to show up. Although this was a more minor repair cost wise, I still am NOT happy with all the small problems this car keeps having, especially since I still owe thousands on this thing. Beware of this year model especially
