Brakes pull and wearout quickly. At 34,000 miles I'm on the 4th set of brake pads and 2nd set of rotors. I have been in several close calls due to the truck swerving while stopping or just not being able to stop as fast as other traffic. Dealer admits it's a bad design and suggests I buy a new truck as Chevy has increased the size of the front rotors and put on good rear disk brakes.

Consumer has several problems with vehicle: Front end pulls to the right and left while driving, there are front end alignment problems, it has been aligned, however still pulls to the right and left. Engine is burning antifreeze, when checked shortly after vehicle was serviced the oil was down 2 quarts, vapor recovery tank was empty, antifreeze/water level in antifreeze in radiator was down 1 quart, head gaskets leaking antifreeze into the combustion chamber and burning the antifreeze, check engine light illuminated, coolant level in radiator dropped once the engine was started, there was a minute amount of exhaust gases coming out of the filler neck of the radiator and the water level slowly dropped in the radiator. Vehicle pulls drastically to the left while braking, dealer has replaced brake pads and rear shoes and has refaced rotors and drums, pulling still exists, dealer also replaced the proportioning valve. Transmission makes a ticking noise. A specialist looked at vehicle and observed that when the engine was started, it charges at 15.1 volts direct current which is overhcarging the batter, even after vehicle ran for 15 minutes, the vehicle was still charging at $14.71 volts, the battery has failed 4 times, it has leaked and corroded, check gauges light came on and all gauges went crazy. Vehicle idles high, dealer replaced idler air control valve. Driver side mirror will not turn side to side, dealer replaced faulty mirror switch.

The vehicle shakes severely during hard braking. Steering wheel pulsates during normal braking. Dealer stated that a complete front brake job was needed. Vibration is caused by warped front rotors due to what the dealer calls "normal wear". inspection of the front brakes shows less than 50% wear on the brake pads and no obvious defects on the rotors. This vehicle has never been used to tow anything.

The brakes on this car have been replaced 8 times and each time was a premature wearing and most of the time covered under warranty. I paid $100.oo deductible I think 5 times. On 4/11/00 the dealership told me it was not a warranty covered item and so I had to pay for it. Then on 6/28/00 the new reason they gave me for the premature wearing was that I needed heavy duty brakes on the rear. I paid $401 for that and they covered the front brakes under warranty at this time. I was also told numereous times it was a factory defect and they would take care of it. It is still a constant problem and now they have given me a new reason for the premature wearing of the brakes. I am afraid to drive my car for fear the brakes will give out while I am going fast.
