CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar” warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

The door latch on the 2013 Ford Edge is faulty, and continually has to be replaced. This is the second time in 6 months we have had to have this replaced, and this time, we are 3000 miles over our warranty, and are having to go out of pocket for this - an expense of over $300. Additionally, because the door latch doesn't work correctly, it continually causes the interior lights of the cart to stay on, which has caused the battery to deplete, and we are now facing the charge for a new battery as well in order to get our vehicle in working order. Lastly, Ford informed us today that the factory battery that they installed is "too small" for this size vehicle, and a larger capacity battery should be put in its place. We purchased this car new, and issues like this make us feel as if we've purchased a lemon. Ford is now charging us for a part that is clearly poorly manufactured, and as a consequence, causing us to buy additional parts like batteries to support their mistakes.

The driver door ajar sensor is always on even when I close the door. The drive door ajar sensor never goes off. It causes the lights to come on while I am driving, it will not let me lock the doors while I am inside the car as well as the lights stay on for over 5 minutes when I try to lock the car after I get out. This is draining my battery.

The system is showing a "door ajar" alarm, drivers front door. Initially I thought it was just because I did not close the door enough so I just opened it, and pulled a little harder and the alarm went away. I drove the car for a few days and one morning when it was frosty I closed the door and the "door ajar" alarm posted again. I opened the door and closed it several times and the alarm went away. From this I thought the striker needed to be adjusted, I thought, "how is it possible that the door switch could have failed on a vehicle that is only 1.5 years old?". I drove the car for a few more days and at this point the alarm was posting about 50% of the time. Around the beginning of December the alarm began posting all the time. Now, it posts nearly 95% of the time with only a few times where it does not. The issue with this alarm is twofold: 1) it keeps the dome lights on because the system does not see that the door is closed when you get out of the car and lock it, thus the timer must time out (around 20 minutes) and the lights turn off. 2) this prevents the doors from being locked while driving. The last one is the one that I have a problem with because this, to me, is a safety concern.

The driver side door sensor will not recognize the door is shut. This is causing the interior lights to remain on during the night time and the doors cannot lock. My child is able to open the door while moving causing a major safety issue. Ford is aware of the problem when we took it in and knows this is a defect, but will not address the issue. The require us to pay 300-500 dollars to fix. Please make them recall this for the safety of the children in the back seat. I will be contacting my lawyer to see what further steps we can take.

While driving - even though the driver door is completely shut, the driver door ajar warning sign appears on the dashboard screen accompanied by the sound of a chime. Sometimes when you open and shut the driver door whether while still driving or if and when you find a side of the road space, the warning sign disappears. But oftentimes, it takes 3 or four tries to make it disappear. Sometimes the driver door ajar warning comes with an instruction to shift to P (park).... which is helpful if you can find a side of the road spot otherwise the instruction will just confuse a novice driver and could potentially create an accident. I search the internet and found this problem is very common with Ford Edge. I feel that this problem could potentially create an accident and warrants a recall.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While driving 10 mph, the driver side door ajar light illuminated and prevented the doors from locking while the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the front driver side door sensor malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000. The VIN was not available.

My vehicle is a 2014 Ford Edge with less 40,000 miles. The door ajar sensor is malfunctioning thus preventing the door to lock while vehicle is in motion and the interior dome light stays on while driving. My child has opened the door on many occasions while vehicle was in motion and almost fell out. Ford is aware of this issue and there many online forums with customers having the same issue dating back to 2010. And instead of doing recall Ford has issued a tsb.

The door ajar warning light continued to stay on even after closing the driver side door. We "googled" the situation and found out that many owners of Ford Edge vehicles have reported this problem. We took it to a dealership to get repaired. We did have an extended warranty, but ended up paying $150 diagnostic fee. The total cost was $459 (extended warranty paid). After reading the blogs about this repair, we would like to see this be a recall for the vehicle.

After closing the door then starting the vehicle the "door ajar" will not go off which notifies the driver to put the vehicle in park. I think this is a safety issue as the vehicle may not protect the driver and passengers in the event an accident occurs. I also noticed that when turning the vehicle off to get gas or etcetera, it keeps notifying you to put the vehicle in park. I think this is directly related to the door latch being faulty. Ford wants $400 to repair this item which I think is a safety issue and should be recalled as many Edge owners are experiencing the same faults.

Door ajar sensor indicates door is ajar when it clearly is not. This makes locking the doors impossible and causes the interior dome lights to illuminate. Car is less than 2 years old. Apparently, this is a problem with the switch assembly across numerous Ford vehicles.

The driver side door becomes ajar even when shut and you have to open and shut the door numerous times to have the alert go away. The dome lights stay on and at night this not safe. Also, every time you start to accelerate the car beeps and tells you to put the car in park, which is a distraction. Also this prevents the doors from locking while the vehicle is in motion and causes the interior lights to remain on in the vehicle when parked. If continue to drive while door ajar lamp is illuminated the alert will also chime every time I start from a complete stop which very distracting.

I have been having issues with the driver's "door ajar" being on constantly. The door is clearly shut; however, there is a constant beeping warning that the door is open. Due to this warning, the car will not allow for the doors to be locked when the car is in motion. This is a major concern having two young children. In addition to the safety issue mentioned above, the dome light is now delayed from turning off upon exiting the vehicle. Took this into the dealership and they wanted $500 to fix. This past weekend, I am now receiving a warning that my liftgate is open as well. I had no success after attempting to close the liftgate multiple times. This lock mechanism seems to have a clear issue which Ford is hesitant to address. I really hope they get this fixed asap or I will not be purchasing Ford products again.

The driver's door sensors intermittently have a "door ajar" warning, though each door is completely shut. The sensor is inside the latch, and has a very high failure rate, based on cursory internet research. The warning can occur while driving, and/or applying brakes. It alerts the driver to put the car in park. The doors will not lock (while driving) when the "door ajar" sensor light it on. This is a safety issue.
