This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Door is securely shut and engine is running. However, driver display shows message, "driver door ajar" and chime is audible. Interior dome lights stay on while starting to drive, but will eventually turn off. While driving, driver display shows message, "shift to park". interior dome lights and side mirror lights stay on when engine is stopped and doors are locked.
Drivers door ajar light remains on even after door is shut, causing dome light to continue to stay lite. Info states shift to park whenever come to stop.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While the vehicle was parked, the front driver side door warning light illuminated when the driver's door was securely closed. The failure recurred constantly. Driver side door will shut, but inside will show "ajar" with all dome lights on. After numerous times (20+) of opening and closing the door, it will sometimes finally close to stop showing ajar and lights will turn off. In my opinion, this is a safety hazard if driving at night as I've experienced already once with my door not willing to close properly at night, and having to drive with all dome lights on (huge issue). Went to a Ford dealer that says they will run a diagnostics test to see what's wrong, but there are hundreds if not thousands of complaints already on-line of people having the same issue and this still hasn't been addressed by Ford for a recall. Many are saying the costs are from $250-$500 for repairs to get it fixed. For a 2 year old car, this should not be happening!
The front door lock sensor doesn't work. When the door is shut the sensor doesn't sense that the door is shut, causing the notice to direct user to shift car in park to shut door, when it's already shut.
Driver door sensor does not sense the door is closed. This prevents the over head dome light from shutting off, which at night making it hard to see out the front windshield. The door locks also will not stay locked even if you manually push down the indicator. This allows my children to open the rear doors as we drive down the street. I was told twice now that this is not a safety issue and nothing is broken, so it isnt covered under warranty or a recall.
We were on our way to Texas from Missouri. As we were traveling South on I35 a warning light came on the dash stating that the driver's door was ajar when it appeared to be shut. It then told us to shift to park and shut the door. We pulled over on I35 thinking it was something that we needed to do for safety reasons. My wife got out of the vehicle and was almost hit by a car at highway speeds. After shutting the door several times the warning light would not go off as well as the dome light. Because of the issue the doors would not lock and the alarm would not arm itself. I have been a local police officer for kcpd for 14 years and have seen far too many accidents because of people pulling over on a highway. This issue needs to be addressed and fixed on all Ford vehicles. After our trip I reserched this issue online and apparently its happening on several different Ford models. I saw complaint after complaint by people who were Ford owners.
Door ajar warning comes on when the door is shut due to faulty sensor in drivers side front door. Interior lights stay on causing a hazard to driver at night.
Driver door ajar warning light stays on when door is shut. Door locks will not lock upon movement of vehicle when light is on. When trying to lock the vehicle after turning off, interior and puddle lights stay on, draining battery. This has gotten progressively worse over the past six months.
The driver's door ajar light on the dash instrument cluster and the interior lights stay illuminated even when the door is completely shut. The door needs to be slammed several times before the light extinguishes, but sometimes will not go out at all. This leaves driver with an insecure feeling the car door is not securely closed while driving. This problem seems to be widespread on this model vehicle from what I read on the internet.

The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Shut off engine, pulled out the key, while leaving the vehicle the ignition alarm was sounding like the key was still in ignition. Had to reinsert key pull it out and the ignition alarm shut off. The second time the car would not start untill the ignition was jiggled with key in same.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. Upon starting the vehicle, the doors would not lock and the door ajar warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The driver side door was not locked. The failure occurred every time the contact entered the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 47,000.
The sensor on the driver's door latch failed to detect that the door was closed in order to lock the doors. Need to slam door several times to attempt to activate sensor. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't work. Interior lights remain on while door is parked (draining battery) or while driving, which is a safety distraction at night. Doors do not lock and when trying to manually lock, the vehicle automatically unlocks all doors - very unsafe with children or elderly in vehicle. Ford warranty expires at the low mileage of 36,000 miles, so they will not fix without spending $450. The Ford warranty is very poor compared to all other vehicles. Updated 09/03/15

Door ajar switch is malfunctioning. The car will randomly say the drivers door is ajar. This typically happened when getting in and out of the car. Today it said the door was ajar randomly while driving.
