This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
After re-accelerating from a stop after appx 2 hrs driving at 60-70 mph the car hesitates for a couple of second then starts up again. It has occasionally stalled. This seems to occur more frequently in hot weather and doesn't seem to happen on trips up to an hour. I have had people almost go into me from behind due to it appearing that I am pulling away and then the car suddenly stopping with no brake lights visible. Also this usually puts the car in the middle of an intersection at a standstill.
Recall 99vo62001/cruise/speed control:(recall repairs were done), but vehicle still experienced sudden acceleration while traveling on the highway at 55 mph which caused a collision; no injuries were reported. Dealer notified.
Received recall notice #99V062000/001. Contacted dealership. Informed no parts available. Received card from dealer & took vehicle for repairs. While driving vehicle 7 hours later & using cruise control, it became stuck on 75mph. Cruise control failed to release when accelerator tapped. Guided vehicle to side of road & turned it off. Restarted vehicle & cruise control off. Took vehicle back to dealer to have cruise control turned off completely.
Suspension problems began after a heavy load was in the vehicle.(400-500 lbs) the front end rode 1 foot above the rear end.since then the car has handeled quite differently, and has constant loud squeaks and grinds. The bushings recently were removed and greased, under carriage arms in front had to be replaced. Problem appears to be ok, why did this start at 6000 miles? hesitation during hard acceleration, always from stop, crossing intersection.extensive throttle body, housing repair work neccessary, recalls did not solve the problem.two friends with 98 Explorer have had exact problems with load carrying and suspension problems.hesitation problems as wellave had ecact problems not solve the problem er carriage
Vehicle won't disengauge and accelerated up to 75 mph. Pushed the cruise control button, and vehicle kept accelerating. Applied the brakes, and vehicle went up to 80 mph.
Also experiencing right flood light failure. This is the 3rd bulb replacement. I, the customer would like some resolution to these problems. The vehicle cost too much to experience these many problems.( dot number: 274 tire size: P235/75R15 )
When getting into vehicle and starting it up, throttle sticks. Consumer has to press the gas pedal real hard to stop the throttle from sticking. Also, passenger's side seat belt won't come out, and front passenger's seat keeps sliding forward whenever consumer is driving.
Received recall 99V062001 & contacted dealer. Took vehicle in for speed control repairs & had it done. Picked vehicle up & noticed cruise control failed to work like it should. Contacted dealer & was refused to correct problem.
Consumer feels the recall on throttle body plate repair/notice is insufficient, feels that immediate repair should be done due to possible failure. (99M02) nlm
