While driving normally, our Ford Explorer suddenly lost power. The wrench warning light came on. It had to be towed to PepBoys garage. They said that the throttle body assembly had broken down. As soon as the assembly was replaced, the car worked.

Unknown to us, an "unofficial" recall of this assembly had already been made to many Ford models. Of course, our vehicle contained this same defective equipment. Hence, we request that Ford pay for the replacement of the part and for the labor charge involved. The consequence of this defective equipment could have been disastrous if the stall had occurred on the expressway! My husband had had no control of the car when the vehicle stopped. It was pouring rain and he had to wait in the car for two hours for a tow truck. He had spinal surgery in October and is scheduled for more spinal surgery on June 19th, so this was very painful for him and he had much difficulty walking for the rest of the day.

Explorer Eddie Bauer V6

I bought this 2007 Ford Explorer new in late 2006. I drove it without any issues up until March of this year (2013). I was on my way to work one morning when my accelerator hung up wide open. I was swerving to dodge vehicles as my car was wide open. So much panic set in I didn't know how to control the vehicle, I thought I was going to die. I was flying pass some car when they shouted "neutral, put it in neutral!" So I did and the car sounded like it was going to explode. It finally coasted to a stop and I called my husband. The incident was not reported and we just had it towed home.

We took it to a local mechanic shop where he told us it needed a new electronic throttle control. We replaced the part and had it installed for about $500. After we got it back we put it up for sale at a low price. Someone came by and bought it for $6,500. We told them what it had done and that it had been fixed. I have not heard back from them on how it has been. Hopefully alright. I just wish they would not put these electronic throttle bodies on cars now days.
