Firstly, I am the original owner of the car. Car started having rough idle while in drive or reverse with a slow start from stop. Some jerking and hesitation while shifting in 3rd gear and up. Took it to Ford dealer to have diagnosed and was diagnosed with a failed torque converter stating that the transmission needed to be replaced. Customer Satisfaction program 20N07 was opened on October 9th, 2020 for this exact issue (I was never notified) and was closed on November 30, 2021. Barely 1 year does not give customers any timeline to have anything done and what about those that never had the issue during that short timeframe??? Since the vehicle is now over 100k miles and the NHTSA program 20N07 is no longer valid, no assistance is available to me to fix the car. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE (HENCE THE PREVIOUS 20N07 COVERAGE) AND WILL DO NOTHING MORE ABOUT IT. Don't know how this is right in any way but steer clear of any 2016-2019 Ford Explorer with a 2.4L 4cylinder engine as this is a known issue that is no longer covered under any sort of warrantee program.

Being told by Ford dealership that I need a new transmission and it will be just under $6000 to replace. I'm over my warranty buy 4000 miles but under my 5 year ownership. Already had to have water pump replaced a few months ago. Doing more research online it appears that Ford has transmissions issues on other several other Ford models that even resulted in a Focus lawsuit.

The actual price to replace my transmission is $6916.00 which was quoted by the Ford mechanics. The 2008 Lincoln MKX has the same problem which I had to replace with the 2017 Ford Explorer. A mechanic that used to work in the Ford Service department in Sierra Vista AZ confirmed that Ford Dealers knew about the faulty transmission since 2008 but failed to tell people that came in with the problems.

I had taken the Lincoln many times over and over asking them to look at the Lincoln's jerking but every time they said that there was nothing wrong. I finally bought the explore because my new job was further and could not afford to break down. Now I just had the explore for 2 years and I have the same problem and my warranty is out because of my mileage is over 75,000.
